August 24, 2024Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Blink Twice’ is a slow burn turned mystery thrillerAndy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of August 23, 2024. The Zoë Kravitz directed ‘Blink Twice’ is a slow-burn for most of the film, but then it picks up and turns into a mystery thriller. While that might be an ok watch, Andy warns you don't need to waste your time on "The Crow", a bloody and violent remake of the 1994 cult hit. On the other hand, John Woo's remake of his own movie "The Killer" on Peacock is very watchable, if you like artistic action films. Also streaming, "Chimp Crazy" is a HBO Original which looks at people who breed chimps to be human pets, and comes from the producer/director who made "Tiger King."The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes, taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. August 17, 2024Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Alien: Romulus’ is the latest in the franchise to BURSTS into theatersAndy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of August 16, 2024. A new chapter in the “Alien” movie franchise BURSTS into theaters as the Big Movie of the week with “Alien: Romulus.” Despite the horror/suspense genre turn, it’s Andy actually likes it! Producer KellieAnn really enjoyed it, as they both reviewed the film in our podcast. Also out this week is one of the best movies Andy’s seen this year, called "Sing Sing." It is based on a true story and stars Coleman Domingo and Clarence Maclin as incarcerated men participating in a theater group at the famous Sing Sing Maximum Security Prison in New York. For family night, "My Penguin Friend" is another based on true events. It is about a Brazilian fisherman and his wife who take care of an oil-covered penguin and how it helps them heal from tragedy. And streaming on Netflix is “The Union,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, a by-the-numbers action comedy that gets a boost from its charismatic leads. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes, taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. July 20, 2024Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Twisters’ is a fun ride of a standalone sequelAndy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of July 19, 2024. The year of Glen Powell continues as he headlines, along with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, the "standalone sequel" “Twisters,” on the big screen. Over on streaming, Dave Bautista returns to lead an action-comedy streaming sequel movie called "My Spy: The Eternal City," which is silly but occasionally hilarious on Amazon Prime. Andy’s pick of the week is the Netflix documentary "Skywalkers: A Love Story," which is NOT about Star Wars, but rather some thrill-seekers who illegally climb the outside of skyscrapers and take photos/videos at the top. It's almost impossible to believe! And we have to mention the sixth and final season of the “Cobra Kai” TV series, also on Netflix, begins as the dojos prepare for the Sekai Taikai tournament and the final showdown with their arch-nemesis.The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes, taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. July 06, 2024Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: Celebrate the Fourth of July Weekend with the fourth ‘Despicable Me’Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of July 5, 2024. The Fourth of July week means lots of new movies to choose from! Our big movie is "Despicable Me 4" which, while fun, also seems to be at a story end for our main characters. A great, uplifting movie is also in theaters: "Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot," in which an entire town works together to adopt all 77 of the foster kids in the system. Fans of Eddie Murphy will want to check out "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F." on Netflix, which reunites all living cast members for another go-around. Also on Netflix, you can't go wrong with the animated movie "The Imaginary," which has Japanese-style hand-drawn animation and tells a story similar to the film "IF" but done better (in my opinion). Finally, it's silly but fun: "Space Cadet," on Prime Video, sees a free-spirited Florida woman (Emma Roberts) get a chance to live her lifelong dream of training to be an astronaut. It's like the 80s movie " Space Camp," but for Gen Z and Alpha. June 22, 2024Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘The Bikeriders’ hits the road and the big screenAndy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of June 21, 2024. The 1960s and 70s motorcycle culture is celebrated in“The Bikeriders,” which hits the road and theater screens this week. Andy says it's worth it for Jodie Comer's amazing Midwest accent alone! As unreal as it sounds, "Thelma" is an action movie starring 93-year-old June Squibb as a grandmother who gets phone scammed out of $10K, so she goes to get it back. And it's a fan-fave at Sundance this year! Another Sundance 2024 film, and Andy’s favorite this week, is “Ghostlight,” where a family struggling to deal with personal trauma finds unexpected connections when they get pulled into a community theater production of "Romeo & Juliet." And if you are a Celine Dion fan, you'll probably want to check out "I AM: Celine Dion" in theaters before it hits streaming on Amazon Prime Video next week.
