  • Charles Band Talks about Barbie and Kendra Storm Area 51

Renowned genre filmmaker, Charles Band (the Puppet Master franchise) returns with the third installment of the Barbie & Kendra franchise in Barbie & Kendra Storm Area 51. Barbie (Cody Renee Cameron) and Kendra (Robin Sydney) are two millennial bimbos that just want to party, but due to the global pandemic, must find a way to not only entertain themselves, but educate themselves by turning into the Probe-U Network (PUN) and learn about the pending destruction of the Earth.

The film incorporates two movies, one of which Band had directed in 1977 and splices them together to create the PUN documentary. Think of Whose Line is it Anyway where they dub over old movies, that's what we get with Barbie & Kendra Storm Area 51.

Band continues to have fun with the movies he makes the stories he wants to tell. As with Barbie and Kendra, the trilogy so far is a relief from the current state of affairs going on this world and gives ups roughly 50 minutes of laughter. The stars of this franchise, Cameron and Sydney must be absolutely brilliant actresses, because you cannot be dumb to play stupid and they are amazing at playing stupid.

In speaking with Band and the trilogy, along with the controversy of the first film in the series called Corona Zombies, most of the criticism was that the movie came too soon in the pandemic to make light of any situation, but as Band points out, he was the first to make a movie of anything Coronavirus related, which will be a trope in films and documentaries for years to come.

Barbie & Kendra Storm Area 51 begins streaming today on fullmoonfeatures.com, on the Full Moon Features Amazon channel and via Full Moon Features App. Listen to what Band had to say about the films, the art of movie making and how storytelling is so important to the process.

Full Moon Features offers a subscription of $6.99 for the month or $59.99 for the year and if you subscribe for the year, you will receive a free 12-Disc Puppet Master Blu-Ray Box Set With One Year Subscription. • Eric Power Talks About His Animated Feature 'Attack on the Demons'

Texas native, Producer/Director/Animator Eric Power released his animated feature Attack on the Demons in virtual theaters, VOD and DVD.

Power worked with longtime friend Andreas Petersen, who wrote the film and also voices about five characters in the feature. Power, along with his wife Alicia also voice a few characters. The movie took roughly a year to make with Power cutting out pieces for the stop motion animation giving it a South Park: Year One feel and for those of us old enough to remember it, an MTV Liquid Television 1990s vibe.

Power spoke with me from his home office in The Lone Star State on Election Night 2020 as America still holds bated breath in awaiting the presidential results. Luckily, for Power and myself, we were able to take a little breather, talk about animation, some of our favorite influences in animation and anime that allowed him to believe at an early age that cartoons weren't just kids stuff anymore.

Attack on the Demons made me feel I was reliving 1994 only this time instead of being attacked by grunge music, it was real demons gnawing at me. To find out that all the animation was done by Power alone on a micro-budge makes the film all that more impressive and it was a pleasure in getting to know this artist.

    Official Synopsis:

The year is 1994 - For centuries, a demonic cult has been plotting the destruction of mankind. When a small Colorado town is overrun by a legion of mutating demons, three non-demon hunter friends must use every skill their minds can fathom to stave off the demon apocalypse.

Laced with a killer new soundtrack, and featuring the voices of Andreas Petersen, Thomas Petersen, Katie Maguire, and Eric Power, Attack of the Demons is available now on VOD and DVD.

  • Darcy Weir Talks His New Documentary 'Sasquatch Among the Wildmen'

Filmmaker Darcy Weir (UFO Events - The Best of Third Phase, Occult Journeys, Beyond the Spectrum - Humanoids) continues his adventures in the world of Cryptozoology with his latest documentary, Sasquatch Among the Wildmen.

Weir covers the topic of this species and their cousins in East Asia, China specifically with the Yeren. The Yeren is much shorter than Bigfoot, standing between 6' to 6'5" in height, making them easier to disappear in the the Chinese forests, and to the average skeptic, a bit more believable.

Sasquatch Among the Wildmen also features Dr. Jeff Meldrum is a Full Professor of Anatomy & Anthropology at Idaho State University, a man who has quickly become the leading Bigfoot researcher based on his expertise on foot morphology and locomotion in primates.

I spoke with Weir about his take on the alternative science theories about these wildmen, the notion that Bigfoot uses wormholes to travel around the Pacific Northwest and where he stood in regards to scientific evidence regarding these creatures.

    Official Synopsis:

  • 'Riverdale' Director Shannon Kohli Talks About Her New Movie 'All Joking Aside'

Director Shannon Kohli (Riverdale, Supergirl, Nancy Drew) takes the helm of the All Joking Aside, written by James Pickering. The film follows Charlie (Raylene Harewood), a 21-year-old, African-American cancer survivor who dreams of being a stand-up comedian. On her very first attempt of taking the stage she heckled by Bob (Brian Markinson), a forgotten stage comic that was on the verge of super stardom, but fell off right before his big television break could come through.

Charlie is estanged from her mother, who she blames for dashing her father's hopes of being a comedian, while Bob no longer talks to his ex-wife and teenage child because he loved the stage more than his family.

Now the two have a real chance of a connection and to heal from past wounds as a new relationship is forged between the two comics.

I spoke with Shannon Kohli about the film, its limited shooting schedule and is basically a guide in how to become a stand-up comedian. One line that Kohli made sure to include in the film was the heartbreaking line from Bob when telling Charlie, "You can either be funny or happy, but you can't be both."

We touched upon how the character of Charlie does not have to posture up to prove she is a strong, independent, woman, because we figured that out with Raylene Harewood being on the movie poster, having top billing and the majority of the scenes in the movie. I also ask the question of why does Western Society feel the need to infantile our women, while sexualizing our children and how we could find a way to stop doing both of those things.

All Joking Aside will be available November 13 On Demand from Quiver Distribution.

  • Ben Feldman Talks About the 100th Episode of Superstore

Ben Feldman talks to us about the 100th Episode of NBC's incredible comedy series Superstore, becoming a more mindful shopper, and the departure of America Ferrera from the show.

Feldman who plays Jonah, the woke but loveable store employee that is quite intelligent but sometimes puts his foot in his mouth in trying to be overly politically correct, has been a foundational member in this amazing ensemble cast that continues to keep us laughing during this year that has fallen apart.

The 100th Episode of Superstore entitled California Part 2, airs this Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and continues the Must See TV tradition that has made Thursday nights, the evening everyone tunes in to NBC for their comedy gold franchises.

The Official Synopsis for the 100th Episode is as follows:

In the show’s 100th episode, Cloud 9 employees prepare to send Amy and Jonah off as Mateo and Glenn attempt to organize a video tribute. Dina searches for a new best friend.

Last week we spoke with Lauren Ash about working with a skeleton crew and how she wants that giant sheet cake for the 100th episode celebration that they didn't get, but will be rectified (You can listen to that interview by clicking here). Feldman, is naturally on board with the idea of having that 100th episode celebration maybe even with a cake that says 100th Episode (+ X) to celebrate everything else that follows.

He spoke to us about being a more mindful shopper, how its like no longer visiting a major big box store anymore and also if there was a Superstore convention, which major retail shop would it be housed in.

Superstore 100th Episode entitled California Part 2, airs this Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Check back hear after the East Coast airing to see what I had to say about the events that took place.

  • Co-Producer Henry McComas Talks 'Wolfman's Got Nards'

Co-Producer and co-writer, Henry Darrow McComas (The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story, Secrets of the Garden, Kings of Conversation) talked to me about the new documentary based on The Monster Squad entitled Wolfman’s Got Nards.

McComas, who officially put a one degree of separation between The Backstreet Boys *NSYNC and The Monster Squad discussed with us how one night when he was going through his older brother's VHS collection as a child came across a cassette with a singular white tape on it that read, The Monster Squad, popped in the movie and fell in love with the now cult film.

It was on a chance meeting that McComas ran into Andre Gower who played Sean in the now legendary film that the two became friends and began discussing production on a potential documentary that lead to the love letter to fans in Wolfman’s Got Nards.

McComas followed around Gower, Ryan Lambert (Rudy) and Ashley Banks (Phoebe) on a 17 theater in 17 days tour showing the '80s flick to packed Alamo Draft House across the country, while avoiding a hurricane that follow them through Southeastern Texas.

Through the love of the fans, the resurgence of the film and the desire to keep it alive, McComas and co-writer, co-producer and was the cinematographer of Wolfman’s Got Nards. The fanfare it so rightly deserves and why the Warner Bros. movie that couldn’t in theaters, did so well on HBO and the home video market that was never forgotten by 80s kids like myself who drove their teachers crazing by constantly quoting the iconic scene of Wolfman’s Got Nards.

  • Jon Garcia, Ian Stout and Tiffany Groben Discuss 'Love in Dangerous Times'

Writer and Director Jon Garcia (The Falls Trilogy, Sex Weather, Tandem Hearts) along with stars Ian Stout (Crazy Night, Actual Reality) and Tiffany Groben (Y2K 2000, The Drunk Series) discuss their film Love in Dangerous Times a dark comedy about trying to make a connection through the state-of-affairs in the midst of the 2020 pandemic in Portland, OR.

Love in Dangerous Times was written and shot during the pandemic and deals with familial struggles, the desire to create, loneliness and the desire for love as the world continues to fall apart.

It is a beautiful film that was shot in a linear manner by Garcia, something that is quite rare to see these days in movie making, which allowed to have the feel and flow of a play in some instances.  The use of natural lighting in most scenes is really what gives the visual storying telling an added boost in something that could easily have been played for tongue-in-cheek purposes rather than an earnest movie with humorous elements during a period in history where the world feels as if it was going to end.

I spoke with Garcia, Stout and Groben about the film and how art imitates life, while life reflects on art.

    Official Synopsis:

Love in Dangerous Times is the newest film from acclaimed indie director Jon Garcia (The Falls Trilogy). As a virus spreads quickly throughout the globe, Jason remains ambivalent about its danger. Unable to travel and with his family on the other side of the country, he decides to spend the pandemic working on a play that resembles his life and current circumstances. As writers-block and loneliness ensue, he begins to turn to online dating to find a buddy for the apocalypse where he meets Sorrel. With the infection rate worsening and feat looming, the two begin to lean on one another for support and while they try to make sense of the times they live in. Ian Stout and Tiffany Groben star.

Love in Dangerous Times will be available November 3 on all major VOD platforms including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, and Vudu from Dark Star Pictures.

Comedic actor Ed Begley Jr. (A Might Wind, Transylvania 6-500, Best in Show) and his real life wife, actress Rachel Carson (Falcon Crest, But I'm a Cheerleader, Happy Family) co-star in Reboot Camp, streaming at the Austin Film Festival through Thursday, October 29, 2020.   The mocumentary co-stars David Lipper, Eric Roberts, Ja Rule, David Koechner, Chaz Bono, Shar Jackson and Maya Stojan and is on the level with Christopher Guest’s Waiting for Guffman.  Reboot Camp‘s World Premiere at Austin Film Festival took place Friday, October 23, 2020 at 7:30 pm CT, and the film will be available for viewing through the end of the festival on October 29, 2020 with tickets and info available at Austin Film Festival: Reboot Camp.  Official Synopsis:  Reboot Camp is a twisty fun comedy about two brothers who create Reboot Camp, a fake self-help group, and its leader “Gordon St. Pierre,” to expose the exploitive practices of fake gurus and how easy it is to con people into believing just about anything. To their surprise, their absurd Reboot Camp becomes a big success with a devoted following.  With a large ensemble cast and lots of fun cameos, Reboot Camp is a fast-moving comedy on one level, with deeper social commentary on another level, about why it is important for people to think for themselves instead of surrendering their free will to others who may have their own ulterior motives.  I spoke with the couple about how writer/director Ivo Raza had been planning this film out for over 7 year and that production took only 12 days to complete the film. Begley and Carson discusses their real life relationships and what new age religions had tried to recruit them earlier on in their careers once becoming Los Angeles residents. • Lauren Ash Talks the Return of 'Superstore' and her Podcast 'True Crime and Cocktails'

Lauren Ash returns as Dina on the NBC smash hit Superstore returning Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT and her podcast True Crime and Cocktails: Unsolved Mysteries Edition, co-hosted by her cousin Christy Oxborrow.

The concept of True Crime & Cocktails: Unsolved Mysteries Edition came about when Oxborrow and Ash were talking earlier this year and realized that as kids they both used to sneak off and watch the original Unsolved Mysteries hosted by the late Robert Stack, in secret. Now as adults, their obsession with the new Netflix version of the series lead to launching their very own podcast discussing the franchise.. Oxborrow is described as, a stay at home mom with a great internet connection and time on her hands who went down a rabbit hole on the released episodes and uncovered new information not discussed in the Netflix series. Ash, decided that the cousins, who are as close as sisters, should document their findings in, True Crime & Cocktails, with the first season focusing on Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries.  The podcast will be a mixture of new facts and conspiracies about the crimes plus childhood stories, drinks and laughs from Ash and Oxborrow.

As if Lauren Ash isn't busy enough as it is, Superstore will be celebrating its 100th episode on Thursday, November 5, 2020, entitled California Part 2, as they say farewell to America Ferrera, as Amy moves to California to advance her career for the benefit of her two children.

I have had the pleasure of exchanging pleasantries  with Ash at several events including NBC Holiday Parties, San Diego Comic-Con and the Critics' Choice Awards and let it slip that she was a bit of a, Celebrity Crush, which in full disclosure is the wrong phrase. The correct one would be someone I have for great admiration especially who is such a talented person. Ash could be the center of attention and just in conversing with her, make any introvert feel like the guest of honor.

True Crime & Cocktails: Unsolved Mysteries Edition episode four, drops tonight entitled Berkshires UFO, anywhere you listen to your favorite podcasts.

Superstore returns on NBC Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with the sixth season premier episode entitled Essential and right now we could use a good laugh.

  • Andre Gower Discusses His Love Letter to 'The Monster Squad' Fans in 'Wolfman's Got Nards'

Andre Gower, the star of The Monster Squad co-writes and directs the documentary Wolfman's Got Nards, available now for pre-order ahead of its Tuesday, October 27, 2020 release. Gower who played Sean in the film, reached out to fellow cast mates Ryan Lambert (Rudy) and Ashley Banks (Phoebe) for what started out as a 30th celebration tour hitting 17 cities in 17 days with all screenings being held at an Alamo Draft House Theater.

This was all on the heels of when in 2006, the last remaining 35 mm print copy of The Monster Squad was found in New Zealand and brought to an Alamo Draft House in Texas, with a special screening featuring the cast and co-writer/director Fred Dekker, who did not expect and sold out crowd. Dekker was asked about a DVD edition and told the fans it was up to them to make their voices heard, which they did.

Not only was a DVD released but for the 25th anniversary, a double disc Blu-ray set came out. All this for a movie that died at the box office, of which I was one of the lucky kids in 1987 that got to see it in the theater and still remember it fondly.

Most importantly what goes on in this documentary is the absolutely touching tribute to the late Brent Chalem (Fat Kid/Horace), who passed away far too young and his story is told by old family friends and his girlfriend about what he meant to them and to the movie at large.

Through the love of the fans, the resurgence of the film and the desire to keep it alive, Gower and co-writer, co-producer and cinematographer Henry McComas (The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story) take us on a journey, of the history of the film, the fanfare it so rightly deserves and why the Warner Bros. movie that couldn't in theaters, did so well on HBO and the home video market that was never forgotten by 80s kids like myself who drove their teachers crazing by constantly quoting the iconic scene of Wolfman's Got Nards.
