Kelly Kix it this week with Dawn Bryant, who dives into her life's biggest goal of making a mark; not by having a light shown upon herself, but by seeing other people find the light within themselves and shining bright.
This goal is achieved through the variety of ways Dawn inspires others and touches the lives of people she meets every day. There is also a ribbon that weaves through her life that continues to remind her of the importance of living big.
Tracie McBride was Dawn's teenage BFF and was abducted from her military post while Dawn was on the phone with her in 1995. The last thing she heard her friend say was, "I can't right now, I'm on a long distance phone call..." the line went dead. The next day, Dawn learned from Tracie's mom that Tracie was missing. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies visited Dawn and flew her to the Army base. Days later, they found Tracie's body. Dawn walks us through her experience, shares stories of Tracie, navigates some of the grief and guilt. Expresses the importance of focusing not on the what if's, but on the what now... live out her life filled with light, stepping forward and keep momentum shining light into others lives from the inside (see that full circle into Dawn's biggest life goal).

FanGals is excited to be back after a beautiful mid summer break!
Kelly Kix welcomes back Lindsay Guentzel to chat it up about recent summer road trips and traveling; the excitement and anxiety that comes with the lead up and return home from traveling with tips to maximize the excitement while minimizing the anxiety.
Being our "best self" or a different us while on vacation vs when we return home. How do we continue to be that same person we love when we return home.
The gals also dive into an emotional conversation surrounding grief and loss, but in a more non traditional sense of grieving and loss. The grief of lost opportunities and the grief of letting go of friendships. Knowing when a broken relationship is worth saving, reaching out to connect. Allowing people to show up for you in times of need.
We end the episode with gratitude for what this podcast has done, brought together some incredible people for deeper and different conversations to be shared much broader than would have been if FanGals didn't exist. Grateful for everyone who has been a guest, a supporter and listener along the way and those who are yet to come! Thank you!
Kelly Kix welcomes Lindsay Guentzel, former radio producer / host who is now a food writer and can be seen on a variety of TV shows whipping up delicious goodies!
Lindsay walks through the inspiration behind one of her recent writings "Languishing About". Being busy, doing stuff. But not feeling fulfilled, motivated or thriving. Especially this feeling as we begin stepping out from the pandemic; asking ourselves "did I do enough, what did I accomplish".
Kelly and Lindsay also discuss the topics of overall mental health, being dreamers, feeling fulfilled, "strong vs. skinny", dating, the struggles and frustrations associated with dating a guy with the classic "Peter Pan Syndrome", unfair judgements towards "the other woman", choosing to leave a relationship to focus on growth and happiness in your life, life changes, giving grace, and as always... so much more!
Continuing our #FanGals Mental Health Matters series during this Mental Health Awareness Month, Kelly Kix welcomes Heather Petri to discuss parenting children through mental health crisis / dx / challenges / illnesses. Mental Health isn't something we generally find in parenting books. Many parents are suffering and struggling in silence while trying to parent children through their mental health journey. It can be a very exhausting and lonely space for parents as there continues to be so much shame and stigma associated with mental health. Heather shares her very raw and real experiences in navigating her sons mental health crisis and parenting in all the stages of his growth. What she did right, what she may have done differently, what she learned from her experiences, etc. Heather also shares information about organizations who can help those who are also navigating this path.
Kelly and Heather also dive into the problematic "Good Vibes Only" narrative and why it's important to focus on "Real Vibes Only". Good Vibes Only, Toxic Positivity, tend to eliminate the real shit we go through in life. "Hustle" and "Fake it 'til You Make it" pushes this Go Go Go mentality, not allowing us to pause and appreciate where you're at and who you are in the moments. When you're real, you honor yourself. When trying to live in the good vibes only space, you aren't honoring yourself and your health. Hustle can be good, but not at the cost of living in the moment, not at the cost of our mental health, not at the cost of our relationships, not at the cost of looking around to see what's precious in the moments.
