Fanning the Flames

The Suns take care of business, winning against the Raptors, Pacers and Pistons!

We recap this week in Phoenix Suns basketball, and do our best to NOT get too upset about the stupid, ridiculous, nonsensical, dumb, phony and indefensible NBA All-Star fan voting. That said... we can't wait to watch Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose start in the All-Star game.

Fanning the Flames is back in full force as we discuss the week that was for the Phoenix Suns. Dan’s return is particularly noteworthy as he comes in with what may already be his rant of the year (parental discretion is advised). On top of that, we cover:

Devin Booker's dustup with the Toronto Raptors' mascot;

General savagery by NBA players (i.e., Ja Morant staring down a child);

Whether the Suns the bad guys in the NBA;

Whether we see the team making any moves before the trade deadline; and

A very special challenge Dan is going to try...

JaVale or Jalen?

We NEVER would've imagined this question being asked, and now, we never would've guessed who our answer may be. The Suns have almost returned to full health, although their pride may be on the Health and Safety list following the smackdown by the Heat. Now that the roster is starting to be fully available, the logjam at center is already starting to show. After last year, it seems like James Jones REALLY wanted to take care of the depth at 5, and he definitely did that. We discuss who may be on the trading block as the deadline slowly approaches.

Happy New Year, Suns fans! It has been a weird start to 2022 for the Suns, as they've seen a number of players and Monty Williams find themselves in the NBA's health and safety protocols. But those circumstances allowed the team to bring in Bismack Biyombo, who's impact was felt immediately, and allowed Jalen Smith to show what he can do.

On this episode of Fanning the Flames, we discuss Biyombo's impact, Stix's future, and our favorite Suns moments from 2021. Oh... and in case you're interested, I share my cautionary tale about drive-in movies.

Happy New Year!

2021 was a great year for Phoenix Suns basketball, and hopefully 2022 will bring more of the same. Although the Suns' 2021 was fantastic, they've started 2022 in a bit of a precarious position, as COVID protocols have finally made their way to the Suns organization. Since last episode, the Suns went just 2-2, having to rely heavily on Jalen "Stix" Smith and an assortment of new faces, including... Bismack Biyombo? There wasn't much to learn this week in terms of X's and O's, but we did learn about Cam Johnson Thursdays, and we think you'll want to learn about them too!

Merry (NBA) Christmas!

NBA Christmas Day is behind us and we are left with plenty to talk about, as Warriors vs. Suns III has left the Warriors with a 2-1 season series lead. The Suns dropped a tough one, but the top two teams in the West still seem to be destined for a playoff clash. We talk about what can be learned from the season series so far, what the Warriors have done well , and the resiliency the Suns continue to show, no matter the opponent or score.

Dan and Paul take the reigns of Fanning the Flames this week as Justin has to step away to speak with some of his sources (not really, but kind of). The guys discuss:

Devin Booker’s 3 point shot and how he’s now shooting (roughly) 93% on the season.

The upcoming showdown with the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day and why that team continues to get so much love.

Is Deandre Ayton an All-Star? And is that the right question?

All this, and maybe even some Spidey talk, on this episode of Fanning the Flames!

Calm down. We're kidding (no matter how much a certain 2-time Grammy-winning friend of the show may want it to happen). The Phoenix Suns are winning. Let us have some fun.

And we have plenty of fun on this episode of Fanning the Flames, as we are joined by John Voita (@DarthVoita) of the Suns JAM Session Podcast (@SunsJAM) to discuss:

The past week of Suns basketball.

What's the deal with Jalen Smith?

What player would you still despise even if they were on the Suns?

It took Devin Booker being out, the Phoenix Suns traveling to play the second night of a back-to-back, a dislocated pinky for Mikal Bridges, and Cameron Payne shooting 3-17 from the field, but the winning streak finally came to an end. On this week's episode of Fanning the Flames, we discuss the streak, starting a new streak, the potential firesale by the Indiana Pacers, the huskier side of the NBA, and more!
