We recently got a chance to chat with Forged in Fire Champion for Season 5 Episode 7 - The Karabela, Ethan Kempf! @kempfforge Ethan contacted us after finding our podcast, and graciously offered to come on for an interview, even after we called him a weirdo hippie in our wrap up for his episode! We had a delightful conversation with Ethan, discussing his appearance on Forged in Fire, his current work as a full-time bladesmith, expanding into the creation of ceremonial knives, and more!

For this episode, we go to Tinseltown (in spirit)! The contestants recreate Rambo's survival knife, and then the finalists had to make their version of a 1000 layer Damascus katana, as shown in Kill Bill. This was a really fun episode, with lots of silliness, and some really awesome weapons. Also available in video form, just search YouTube for Fans of the Forge!

For this episode, Apprentice/Master Pairs had to forge Trench knives, while taking turns in 30 minute intervals. Then, finalists had to recreate the Chinese Dao)! This was a lot of fun and a good change to the format. It made for a very interesting episode to see how the Masters coached the Apprentices. 

Disclaimer: We have minimal experience with bladesmithing, but we really dig this show. And we are seriously considering building our own home forge!

For this episode, contestants had to forge signature blades using the metal and wood of a whiskey barrel. Also, we go off on some crazy Spicy Mike tangents. Finalists had to recreate the Qinglong Ji! Another great episode in the books!

For this episode, Forged in Fire Champion Ashé Cravenock joined us to discuss his appearance on Forged in Fire, where he won the Sengese episode! Contestants had to make blades from scissors, then add D guards. Finalists had to recreate the Sengese! It was great talking with Ashé!
