Fans With Bands

Welcome to season 5!! In this episode, we talk with Jared, Jimmy, and Brian from One With The Riverbed. I absolutely fell in love with this band the first time I caught them live at Jeff Fest in Kalamazoo. Dark, atmospheric, and blackened metal music that is brutally beautiful. It checks all the boxes on the What Does Chuck Dig About Metal Music list. It was a pleasure talking with them about how the band came to be, songwriting, influences and more. One With The Riverbed recently released their new album Succumb on Dusktone Records. It surely is one of the best albums of the year.

In this episode, we talk with Ian from Coyote Man. Talk about hard hitting grooves and powerful music, Coyote Man is stellar. Their latest track “Worthy Adversary” rips. It was super to talk with Ian about the band, their sound, their influences, and their name. Coyote Man has been very busy with gigs. However, they plan to take time this fall to record. Hopefully new music will be out next year. In the meantime, enjoy their last album Relics.

In this episode, we talk with James and Brian from Head Full Of Ghosts. It was great to talk with them about their band, their latest album called 10.23, their influences, and more. This band puts a new spin on the 90’s rock and grunge stylings. In some ways I felt like I was listening to new Filter, Seven Mary Three, or Our Lady Peace when listening to Head Full Of Ghosts. It wouldn’t be Fans With Bands without talking about first concerts and pizza toppings.

In this episode, I talked with Tom Robbins the host of And Now The Band Podcast. His podcast is fantastic. Tom talks to a wide variety of heavy bands in a very casual and conversational manner. Its like you are hanging out with him and the band as they talk. It was great to hear about how Tom got started with his podcast and in general spend time talking about music. As usual, we talked about first albums, concerts and pizza toppings

In this episode, we catch up with Stu and Sean from Pulphonics. Since our first conversation in season 3, Pulphonics have found the freedom to explore their musical ideas. This has led to the creation of their new album Sonic Umami Vol 1. On this record, they are spreading their wings and challenging themselves while creating extremely compelling new music. During our conversation we talked about the changes in songwriting and the new direction their music has taken. Since we’d already talked about pizza toppings, we learned what they enjoy for breakfast 🙂

In this episode, we talk with Ian, Elijah, Tegan, and Mer from Headless Mary. I had a fantastic chat with the band about how they got started (including the story on their name) as well as chatting about their last album called Death Is A Moving Target. If you love music that touches that vibe of bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Hum, then Headless Mary is for you. We talked about songwriting, influences, music we are listening to, and our mutual infatuation with Radiohead. Along the way, we of course had to talk about pizza.

Their latest single “Park Place” will be on their new album called Pyres which comes out on Friday, August 23. You can pre-save over on Spotify. They will be celebrating the record release on Friday, August 23 at the Sanctuary in Hamtramck with Central Dogma (a future guest on Fans With Bands) who also have a new album coming. Opening the show is Saving Throw and Living AI. I highly recommend going to this show and getting the new Headless Mary album.

In this episode, we talk with Dan, Dusty, and Grant from Blood Rune Sigil. They have been busy since the last time we talked. Their latest album called Never Odd Or Even is a leap forward for the band. We talked about the new music, line-up changes, and all the other stellar work they have coming soon. This includes new music videos from Zeroes And Ones Studios as well as a new four song live EP called Lucid Sonic Dreamscapes which will be out on August 20th. In this episode, we talk with Brian from Stonecutters. Fists full of aggression with riffs that pummel you into submission is how I think of the music of Kentucky’s Stonecutters. I had the honor of spending some time talking with Brian about their new album Eye Of The Skull, their approach to songwriting, a bit of Brian’s influences and musical career, and of course pizza toppings. Be sure to catch Stonecutters live when you get a chance.

They will be on tour with Cavalcade and Mound Builders starting on August 1st in Kalamazoo Mi with stops in Lafayette Indiana (August 2), and Louisville Kentucky (August 3). Follow them on social media for the latest news and tour dates.

In this episode, we talk with Frank from Trash Fiasco. This punk band from Chicago is eclectic and energetic with sludgy guitars, riveting rhythms, and vibrant vocals. It was great to talk with Frank about the band and their new album Exist as Instructed which includes tunes that have a Melvin-ish heaviness blended with rockabilly and psychedelic grooves. During our conversation we talked about influences, motivations, and pizza toppings.

In this episode, we talk with  Eric, Ivan and Damien from General 11. They are putting a fresh and vibrant spin on alternative rock that is both heavy and groovy. It was great to spend some time talking with them about how they got started, their inspirations, what keeps them motivated and their plans for the future. As always, we closed out a great conversation with our favorite topic: pizza toppings!

You can catch General 11 with Chris Jericho’s Kuarantine at the Diesel Concert Lounge on July 5th
