House Speaker Kevin McCarthy came to the sad realization this week that he is the one being held hostage by the extremist MAGA wing of the Republicans in the House. McCarthy twice tried to pass a procedural vote to prevent a government shutdown, but the lunatics refused to let it happen. A dejected McCarthy whined to the press about people just wanting to "burn it all down," but he's the one who gave them the matches.

Also, no one has ever accused Lauren Boebert of being a genius, and she continues to show us all the time why that label will never be applied to her. This past week, as she's been reeling from the theater scandal, Boebert attempted to shift the conversation to immigration by falsely claiming that immigrants were coming to America and getting free healthcare and tons of free cash. This is actually a conspiracy theory pushed - and debunked - more than 17 years ago, but Boebert revived it to deflect from her problems. 

And finally, at General Mark Milley's ceremony where he became chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Donald Trump became angry and disgusted over the fact that Milley had chosen a disabled veteran who had lost some of his limbs in combat to sing at the event. Trump allegedly said "no one wants to see that" about the amputee who suffered multiple health crises after being caught in an IED attack. This is who Trump is, and this is the person that Republicans are trying to put back into the White House.

Donald Trump took to Truth Social to make his demands for House Republicans as the shutdown deadline looms. Trump told Republicans that this is their last chance to strip the funding from special prosecutor Jack Smith because they failed to do so with the debt limit negotiations. He wants them to shut down the federal government if they don't get their way, and there are plenty of Republicans in Congress willing to do exactly that. 

Also, former MAGA attorney Lin Wood was among the most vocal proponents of the 2020 election conspiracies, and worked, at times, alongside many of the people who were indicted with Donald Trump in Georgia. So why wasn't he criminally charged as well? That answer may have come this week when it was revealed that Wood is actually acting as state's witness against the defendants, meaning that he has flipped on Trump and everyone else. 

And finally, according to a new report, Donald Trump is terrified of going to prison and has been repeatedly asking his lawyers questions about how bad jail will be for him. He's asked if he'll get to go to "Club Fed" or if he'll have to wear one of those orange jumpsuits. This is a stark contrast to his claim last week that he "doesn't worry" about going to jail. The man is clearly frightened, but he has only himself to blame for his situation.

According to former Trump staffer Molly Michael, Donald Trump told her that she "didn't know anything about any boxes" before she met with with investigators. This is clearly a suggestion to Michael from Trump that she should lie to the prosecutors about what was happening at Mar-a-Lago, and this claim will be used against Trump to prove some of the charges against him. The evidence is becoming almost overwhelming at this point.

Also,  Republican Senator Susan Collins has threatened to come to the Senate floor wearing nothing but a bikini to protest the new relaxed dress code in the Senate. The 70-year old Senator made the threat on Tuesday, and as usual, didn't follow through with her threat, much to the joy of everyone in America. But the fact that Republicans are more concerned about what people are wearing in the Senate than the fact that we're barrelling towards a government shutdown tells you everything you need to know about politics today.

Donald Trump has said repeatedly that he could end the Russia - Ukraine conflict in about 24 hours, and now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is calling him out. Zelensky said to the press this week that Trump needs to go ahead and release his peace plan so that the fighting can end, knowing full well that Trump doesn't have any plans in his empty head. Zelensky's comments highlight Trump's complete lack of knowledge about foreign affairs and his incompetence as President.

 Lauren Boebert is having a hard time putting her Beetlejuice antics behind her, and a new report suggests that her actions with her now ex-boyfriend in that theater could result in charges against the pair under Colorado's lewdness laws. It is unclear if authorities actually want to charge her at this point, but the tools are at their disposal if they want to go that route - and the video evidence is clear as day. 

Also, former Trump DOJ official Jeffrey Clark just threw another wrench into Donald Trump's legal defense by filing a motion in court that claims that he was acting under Trump's authorization. Clark was one of the 19 people indicted in Georgia, and while he was trying to get his case moved to federal court, he made the admission that Trump had directed him to send a letter to Georgia falsely telling state officials that their election was ripe with fraud.

And finally, one of Donald Trump's lawyers, Steve Sadow, was overheard slightly panicking during a recent court hearing for co-defendant Jeffrey Clark. During a portion of the hearing where the judge was questioning Clark's lawyers, Sadow was overheard in the crowd whispering "This is not good" to his fellow lawyers. This is definitely NOT what you want your lawyers to be saying while watching someone else get grilled in court, as it means that your client is likely also screwed.

 Donald Trump has finally decided to let the country know why his wife, the former First Lady of the United States Melania Trump, is not with him on the campaign trail. According to Trump in an interview on Meet The Press, Melania isn't campaigning with him because HE is trying to protect her. It has nothing to do with her despising him, if we are to believe the twice-impeached former president who is currently facing 91 felony charges.

Also, two librarians in Kansas were recently fired from the public library where they worked because Right Wing idiots became angry over an alleged pride display that they put in the library. But it wasn't a pride display - It was an Autism Awareness symbol. Now the librarians are suing, and they have a rock solid case if ever such a thing existed. This incident also proves that it isn't about the "content" of books, it is about the erasure of the entire LGBTQ community.

And finally, Donald Trump has so few options for legal counsel that he recently hired a lawyer who was, according to reports, "fresh out of law school". Trump tasked this lawyer with re-filing the lawsuit against Hillary Clinton that had not only already been thrown out, but was so frivolous that Trump and his former lawyer Alina Habba were sanctioned as a result of the filing. And when the case went before the same judge recently, that first-year lawyer was utterly humiliated by the judge. This might be the worst way to start your legal career.

Democratic senator John Fetterman blasted Matt Gaetz on social media for being more concerned about how senators are dressing than the fact that his Party is about to shut down the federal government. Gaetz had posted a clip of him and Steve Bannon laughing about Fetterman's wardrobe, and Fetterman fired back telling Gaetz to stop "crying" about he wears and to "get your sh*t together."

Also, Marjorie Taylor Greene has made it crystal clear that the impeachment of President Biden has nothing to do with criminal actions or evidence, and that it is all about making Democrats feel the pain. Greene admitted as much in a post on social media, where she said that her plan is to drag this out as long as possible to hurt the Democratic Party in next year's election. There's little chance of that happening.

And finally, former Trump lawyer and co-defendant in the Georgia indictments Jenna Ellis announced last week that she could not support Donald Trump's reelection bid because of his "malignant narcissistic tendency to simply say that he's never done anything wrong." That statement is less about the election, and more about what Ellis knows regarding the criminal charges against Trump, and could be an indication that she's ready to flip.

During an interview this week, Rudy Giuliani went and made his legal problems so much worse by making even more false claims about the two Georgia election workers who are suing him for defamation. Rudy needs to learn that you have to stop digging when you find yourself in a hole, but he appears to be hellbent on making his problems worse every time he opens his mouth.

Also, Republican House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan made it clear during a conversation with right wing talker Charlie Kirk this past week that he is willing to force the government into a shutdown if Jack Smith's prosecution of Donald Trump is not de-funded. Republicans are using the budget battle as a tool to protect Trump, and the American people are going to be the ones paying the price for their cult-like behavior. 

And finally, Donald Trump gave an interview to Megyn Kelly this past week, and legal experts were floored when Trump clearly admitted in the interview that he took classified documents from The White House and stashed them at Mar-a-Lago. This isn't the first time that Trump has confessed to his crimes on live TV, and it probably won't be the last, either. But all of these statements can be used against him when he goes to trial.

A belligerent and irate Kevin McCarthy reportedly lost his cool on members of his own Republican caucus towards the end of the week after several of the more extreme members were floating the idea of voting him out of the speakership. According to lawmakers that were present, McCarthy snapped and screamed "File the f**king motion!" at his colleagues, a direct challenge to people like Matt Gaetz.

Also, Lauren Boebert has adamantly denied that she was vaping during a recent theater performance of Beetlejuice, but surveillance video has emerged showing that Boebert was, in fact, vaping right near a pregnant woman indoors during the show. The video also shows the woman appear to ask Boebert something, possibly to stop vaping inside and causing a scene. 

And finally, Donald Trump is trying desperately to stop the upcoming fraud lawsuit against him and his sons, and this past week he actually filed a lawsuit against the judge in the case to stop the suit from proceeding. This is a great way to piss off the man who is overseeing your fate and the fate of your company, but it isn't such a great strategy in terms of the law. Trump is clearly desperate to prevent the details of this case from becoming public

As surprising as it may seem, Judge Aileen Cannon actually ruled against Donald Trump in the document trial this week, smacking down his request to take evidence (including classified documents) back to Mar-a-Lago for review. On top of that, she also threatened him with penalties if he reveals any of the classified evidence to people outside of the trial. This is a big win for the prosecution.

Also, Sidney Powell is testing out a new legal defense while trying to get the criminal charges against her dismissed. In a filing for dismissal this week, Powell argued that she did the things she was accused of, but said that she was "authorized" to do it so the case should be dismissed. That's actually not a viable reason to have the case dismissed, and instead is something she would have to prove during a criminal trial - and even then it won't save her.

And finally, Mitt Romney announced that he won't be seeking a second term in the Senate, and Donald Trump was giddy over the news. But shortly after this announcement, a new book about Romney released an excerpt where Romney says that Republicans in the Senate would routinely laugh out loud about Trump's stupidity behind his back. That's not exactly a comforting thought considering nearly all of those Republicans always went along with his stupid ideas.

Lauren Boebert was recently kicked out of a theater performance of Beetlejuice: The Musical for being generally disruptive (vaping, recording, and being obnoxious to those around her.) Boebert says she laughed "hysterically" as she was being thrown out, but her advisers definitely aren't laughing. They see her poor poll numbers and lagging fundraising, and they know that scenes like this aren't helping anything.

Also, if you needed any more proof that the forthcoming impeachment inquiry into President Biden was nothing more than revenge theater, here it is: Donald Trump recently hosted Marjorie Taylor Greene for a dinner where the duo plotted how to make the impeachment as "painful" as possible for Biden. Trump has also been talking impeachment with other House Republicans, and it is now clear that he's the one pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

And finally, the Republicans are basing their entire impeachment inquiry into President Biden on stories that they were told by questionable people during the sham House investigations that they've been conducting all year. And now an FBI agent is refuting the testimony of one of Jim Jordan's star witnesses (an alleged "whistleblower" who said that the US attorney prosecuting Hunter Biden admitted he was being pressured by the DOJ.) According to the agent that was at the meeting, none of the claims made by the "whistleblower" are true.
