We had a chance to sit down with David Noble, Director of the Peter J. Werth Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Connecticut.

Noble holds a variety of responsibilities, including leadership of Championship Labs, UConn’s center of expertise for the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) business opportunities that are now available to student athletes. Pursuant to athletes’ interests in community service, they also have started Bleed Blue for Good, which works with Husky athletes on charitable causes.

In a wide-spanning discussion, Noble shared how UConn advanced its NIL support structure and found a way to work with collectives, lawmakers, the business community, and the athletic department to create something that benefits the school and its athletic programs.

If UConn basketball, football, hockey, or baseball are going to succeed, it’s going to require NIL structures that provide opportunities for all athletes, not just star players but anyone on the roster, to earn some money. Noble and his team work with athletes in track, soccer, and softball as well, supporting UConn’s continued excellence across a wide range of sports.
