  • Fast Charge ep. 40: Xbox Series X/S review, Moto G9 Power launches & new Galaxy S21 rumours

Being a little light on mobile announcements this week, we thought we’d take the opportunity to wax lyrical about the latest and greatest Xbox Series X and S, both of which have just run our reviews gauntlet. Next up, we’re chatting about the Moto G9 Power and its capacious battery, with a sign-off punctuated by the latest Samsung Galaxy S21 rumours.

With just days between us and the launch of the Xbox Series X (and Series S) we dissect Dom’s review(s) of Microsoft’s next-gen console(s); boasting speedy SSD storage, up to 8K, 120fps, HDR visuals and minimalist design aesthetics.

It’s been less than a year since the Moto G8 Power hit the scene, but its successor - the Moto G9 Power - was just released; toting the biggest battery ever inside a Motorola phone.

Samsung’s bringing the launch of its next Galaxy S phones - thought to be the S21 series - forward to mid-January, 2021. So what are they bringing to the table?

  • Fast Charge ep. 39: iPhone 12 review, OnePlus Nord N10 and N100 & Huawei trade sanctions

Our official iPhone 12 review is finally here, together with our thoughts on the two new budget OnePlus Nord models, and a light at the end of the tunnel for Huawei.

Lewis has been using the iPhone 12 for a week so he's ready to give the Tech Advisor verdict on Apple's latest, along with his first thoughts from a day or two on the 12 Pro.

Meanwhile OnePlus has continued swinging for the budget market with two new Nord models, the N10 and N100, but they look suspiciously similar to some other Oppo and Realme phones we know...

And finally there's at long last good news for Huawei, as it looks like US firms may be able to trade with the company again, just not with its 5G telecoms division - so the company's smartphone arm might be OK. Is a Google deal on the cards?

Sorry this audio version is a little late - technical snafu! Episode 40 is coming up right behind it though, so look out for that soon.

  • Fast Charge ep. 38: Huawei Mate 40 Pro impressions, Vivo enters Europe & RIP Quibi

And that's it, the last massive phone launch of 2020 (we hope): the Huawei Mate 40 series. This week has also seen Vivo make its long-awaited European launch, along with the not-really-unexpected demise of mobile streaming service Quibi.

The Mate 40 series is the latest trio of flagships from Huawei, packing massive camera specs and a new 5nm chipset to make these some of the best-specced phones around. Of course, that only counts for so much when we know they won't support Google.

There are no such problems for Chinese rival Vivo, which has finally launched in Europe this week with the Vivo X51 - really a re-branded X50 Pro - and a trio of budget Y-series phones. Can it replicate the success of Xiaomi and Oppo in western Europe?

And while Vivo is moving up, Quibi is moving decidedly down. The beleaguered mobile-only TV & movie streaming platform has officially kicked the bucket after barely six months, making it one of the highest-profile failures in recent Hollywood history. Is it a Covid casualty, or was it always doomed to fail?

  • Fast Charge ep. 37: iPhone 12 launch, OnePlus 8T review & a budget flagship face-off

We all know the big news this week: Apple has unveiled the iPhone 12 range, with a whopping four phones this time round. Meanwhile the OnePlus 8T has arrived too, and with the team also reviewing the Pixel 5 and Galaxy S20 FE, it got us thinking: which is the best budget flagship?

We're kicking this week off with the iPhone 12, which is joined by the 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. All four phones include 5G, OLED, and a new design, though of course, the Pro models pack a few extra photography tricks in too.

The OnePlus 8T is a more conservative upgrade, but with 65W charging, 120Hz, and Android 11 it's still a decent step up from the 8 - and at £50/$50 cheaper it's pretty damn tempting.

And its price puts it right up against the Pixel 5 and Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. We've reviewed all three phones on the site this week, so it seemed only right to put the three phones head to head and crown the best budget flagship of 2020.

  • Fast Charge ep. 36: Realme 7, iPhone 12 event & Snapdragon 875 rumours

It's the first quiet week in a while, as the whole tech industry takes a big deep breath before Apple's iPhone 12 event - now confirmed for next Tuesday.

Realme is the only company that broke the line, launching the Realme 7 and 7 Pro in the UK with prices starting from a bonkers £179. Dom's been reviewing the 7, so he'll explain why it's *almost* the best budget phone around right now.

Then there's Apple. We know the iPhone 12 is arriving on October 13, but what should we expect? We'll round up the latest rumours about the 12, 12 Pro, and what may be a 12 Mini, along with whatever else Apple might be about to announce.

Finally, Qualcomm has confirmed its annual December Snapdragon Summit, when it's expected to unveil its next flagship processor, the Snapdragon 875. More than that though, rumour has it the company might be about to start making its own phones too - is this an obvious next step for the silicon giant, or is Qualcomm jumping the Snapdragon?

  • Fast Charge ep. 35: Pixel 5, Xiaomi Mi 10T & Oppo Reno 4

Apparently no-one told Xiaomi when Google had its Pixel event, because we've not only seen two enormous phone launches in the same week, but on the same day.

The bigger launch (sorry Xiaomi) is the Google Pixel 5, along with the Pixel 4a 5G, which both see Google reposition the Pixel line. It's a little less flagship, and a little less flashy, but it's more affordable and focuses more on the features that really matter to most users.

The Pixels may be cheaper, but they've got nothing on Xiaomi's Mi 10T series. The three Mi 10T phones deliver absurd specs for the price, going up to 144Hz displays and featuring the debut of the Snapdragon 750G on the budget Mi 10T Lite.

And finally, Oppo also released phones. It's maybe a touch less exciting, but the Reno 4 series is now rolling out to the UK and Europe after launching elsewhere earlier in the year. We loved the Find X2 range, but what do the new Renos have to offer?

  • Fast Charge ep. 34: Galaxy S20 FE, Nokia 8.3 & OnePlus 8T Launch

It's another unbelievably busy week in tech, so join the Fast Charge team as we just barely hang in there.

The headline this week is the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, with grabs as many of the S20's headline features as it can, but slashes the price by cramming it into a plastic back. Oh, and did we say it comes with a Snapdragon 865 worldwide?

Meanwhile Nokia has finally launched the Nokia 8.3, and it's only 6 months late. Lewis has spent a week reviewing the new Bond phone, and is actually pleasantly surprised.

And finally, OnePlus has put its money down and laid claim to 14 October as the launch date for the 8T. And it's already confirmed a 120Hz refresh rate and teased 65W charging - so between that and the leaks, we basically know this phone inside out already.
