The pandemic has changed well, just about everything, including what customers want and value. Here are 3 marketing tips to keep them happy.
1. Make it convenient. The pandemic has been hard, but it’s made some things easier. People work, shop, and attend events from the comfort of their homes. As things return to normal, keep livestream, delivery, and curb-side pick-up options available.
2. Consider staying virtual. Work, school, entertainment—everything has been online for over a year. When people can do these things in-person again, will they want to? Pay attention to the number of people attending virtual and in-person events. You might get more business if you keep virtual options available.
3. Know your values. Now more than ever, your political and social values are important to your customers. Watch social media to see how people respond when businesses make a stance or statement, and when they don’t. Be careful about when and how you participate in these important conversations.

Want more people to see you as an expert? Up your brand and credibility with these marketing tips.
1. Stay on Top of Business Trends. If you don’t live in Hawaii, you probably have to change your wardrobe based on the season. Same thing with your business. You may need to adapt your business based on the latest trends. Don’t be a Blockbuster and fail to predict the evolution of renting to streaming. That’s not going to help your business.
2. Understand Your Brand’s Reputation. Think about how your brand is seen in the eyes of your next customer. Pay attention to Google reviews, Facebook reviews, and what people are saying about you – in person or heaven forbid, behind your back. Anything negative going on? Make it a priority to fix it.
3. Track Your Website’s Performance. As a marketer if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. The same goes for your business’ website. To know how your website is helping or hurting your business, start checking your website’s reporting. One way is to look atyour bounce rate. That shows if visitors stay on your website or click out. The goal is to keep them reading.
5. Create Content as Industry Expert. Write, produce, shoot video – it all counts. Share content through social media that relates to your business and tells the world — you’re an expert! It reminds people why they should buy from you. Mix it up and share articles, links and posts that are educational, fun, and related to your industry so you don’t look salesy or needy, which might even be worse.Plus, it shows that you’re someone they can trust (and hopefully buy from).

Want some SEO marketing tips you can use today? Listen in.
Many small business owners don’t have a SEO marketer on their teams. They’re doing SEO marketing themselves getting decent traffic at a price they can afford, unless they’re hiring a SEO marketing specialist.
If you’re looking to improve your SEO and keep things in-house, consider the EAT strategy.
Build Your Expertise. Google perceives you as an expert if you’re satisfying the people who Google you. So, how do you make a customer get want they want on search? Two simple ways to start. First, look at the keywords your audience is using (there should be a match of what you do and what they are looking for). Second, write compelling valuable content and post often. This helps with organic search ranking. Repetition of excellent content improves your online brand and reputation.
Demonstrate Authoritativeness. Experts are a dime a dozen. If you pay attention to Google and you probably should, they like backlinks to your website and social media shares. Look at getting backlinks from relevant sites and create a reciprocal arrangement. A link to Staples, an authoritative site on its own, probably has more domain power than JoJo’s Earthworm Company, no offense, JoJo. It’s also important to have a guest blog strategy and promote your content on social media.
Be Trustworthy
Learn to love Google and Google will love you – and trust your website. Show up online as a professional brand, build a solid reputation with great reviews, and make a note to check your domain authority.
Special thanks to the Content Marketing Institute for this info on the EAT Strategy and Feedly, where I get a lot of my ideas.

Email marketing is alive and well and bringing in lots of money if you do it right. So, here are some tips to freshen things up, especially your newsletters.
You know how much time and effort it takes to write a newsletter or blog. If you’re watching your numbers and the numbers are moving in the wrong direction, here are four ideas to refresh your efforts and wake up your subscribers.
1. Do you know what your audience wants to read ?Ask them. Create a survey. Email a few people at a time. Better yet, surprise them and hop on the phone. If you’re writing content that’s not geared to their challenges, you’re wasting your time and resources.
2. What’s trending? Sometimes you’re so busy keeping your head above water that you don’t have time to read industry reports or follow influencers and hear what they have to say. Set aside at least an hour a week – even 15 minutes a day– to see what people are talking about. Stay current.
3. Look at the news. What’s going on in the news is important to your audience because it could affect their business. Write about it, give your opinion and link to other expert sources. An even better idea is to mix it up and link to similar articles on your website – as long as they relate. Do you have an angle that’s unique and information your audience needs to know? Tell them.
4. Check out your competition. What are they writing about? What’s popular in their network? You’ve already checked out what’s trending and what influencers are talking about. This will seal the deal. You are following your competition on social media, right?

Want to be successful in sales? Learn the Art of Prospecting and how to overcome prospecting challenges. Here are some tips to up your game.
3 Marketing Tips to Overcome Sales Challenges
1. What are you looking to do? Sounds like a no-brainer but clarity is key – know what you want and it will be easier to get. And forget about you in the get-to-know-you agenda, it’s all about the prospect, not you. Their problems, their challenges, and their business. Ultimately, how you can help solve their problems.
2. Are you targeting the right prospect? Get clear on who your ideal client is and don’t waver. Write a sales plan on paper, not just in your head, and don’t get carried away with super complicated tactics. Marketing will help build like, know, trust, and believability, and support sales – but to close a sale, you have to call or email to connect, and not just once. Block time for sales and make it a habit.
3. Is yourhead in the game? You’re not going to be on your A-game every day. It’s impossible. When you make prospecting a habit, it becomes almost second nature. Focus, tolerate zero distractions and set aside designated time every day or a few times a week, when prospecting is all you do. And follow-up. Otherwise, as my Dad would say, you’re “Mickey M”

Want to be a guest expert on radio, TV or a podcast show? Listen to these 4 tips.
Free publicity can save you tens of thousands of dollars, so it’s in your best interest to learn how to pitch a producer or blogger the right way.
4 Key Elements of a Publicity Pitch
1. Use a catchy headline. Drab doesn’t get you free publicity. If you’re not a wordsmith, put your title through an headline analyzer. You might be amazed! Here are a few to test drive; there’s one from CoSchedule, SEOPressor blog title generator, and SUMO Kickass headline generator has one too. You can also get inspiration from tabloids and trendy magazines (and unfortunately the nightly news). The point is to get attention.
2. Find the producer or booker. Radio shows with a huge following have a bunch of producers to book talent. For smaller podcasts with less reach, you’ll most likely contact the producer or the host directly. The important thing is to contact the right person, so do your homework.
3. Provide value not blah-blah. A producer wants to be impressed and he or she should be. If you look and sound like an expert, and your online credibility says the same, you’re in the game. Producers and advertisers want their show to be interesting and to provide value. It’s not about you – it’s about the audience. What can you bring to the table?
5. Get in touch with the producer. Email works and so does social media. But, before you pitch, listen to on-air segments to see if there’s a fit. And don’t pitch a topic that’s just been covered. You’ll look like an amateur. Your job is to make it easy for a producer to say yes.

Tired of posting articles on LinkedIn? Why not try video ads to capture your target audience’s attention? Here are some tips.
3 Video Marketing Tips for Better LinkedIn Ads
1. Create a video demo with an offer. People are searching LinkedIn for new ideas and are always interested to see how a product or service performs. And video ads that showcase a demo typically have a higher engagement and click through rates. For best results, experiment with an offer, like $200 off with this code or your first month free – and use the special offer or deal in your headline.
2. Add animation to your video ad. Motion captures people’s attention, so when you add animation to your compelling brand story, you’ll get even more engagement. Not sure how to do that? Test drive Biteable, an online video maker that uses stock footage and photos to give you professional, studio quality animation. You’ll love their templates, they’re easy to use, and you can customize to your brand personality and colors.
3. Keep copy simple and use captions. Nearly 80% of LinkedIn viewers watch video without the sound on, so keep your audio to one track. And it’s best to keep your copy simple and catchy. Two to three sentences. Captions and banners will also help to grab someone’s attention. If the sound were off, is your message loud and clear? What about your call-to-action and a CTA button?
Video ads whether for LinkedIn or YouTube need to be short, catchy, and understood without sound. Remember that most video is watched on a mobile device and even if someone has headphones, they read captions if they’re intrigued. If not, they’ll quickly move on.

Want to be a better marketer and get more earned media? Here are three marketing tips to help you get more free press.
If you’re looking to get more free publicity and be a better marketer you have to understand what’s going on in the mind of a busy reporter. Hint: They never have enough time, so be smart when you pitch and do your homework before you hit send.
4 PR Tips to Get More Earned Media
1. Look at what’s been covered recently. Don’t pitch a story, or article or blog if it’s been covered in the last thirty to sixty days. First, you look like you didn’t do your homework, and second, unless you have a story angle that may be considered newsjacking, your pitch may end up in the trash. Well maybe. The delete button is easy to hit.
2. Pitch original content. Everybody loves an exclusive, content that hasn’t run anywhere before. It could be amazing content, well researched, and targeted toward a particular target audience, but if it’s been published before — it’s a no go. If you update it significantly, change the title, links, and position it with a different angle, you have a better chance. Sometimes it’s easier to create fresh content.
3. Get to the point. Don’t beat around the bush or write a novel. You’re not pitching War and Peace. Write your pitch or idea so that it’s succinct and clear to anyone reading. I received a pitch once by a scientific expert and spent 15 minutes trying to understand what he was trying to say. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but this was almost painful.
4. Be clear and to the point. Write short compelling copy that will persuade the person reading that this is the right fit. When you write, talk your copy out loud. Are you having a conversation or pontificating?
That’s it. Short and sweet, just like the perfect pitch for earned media. Learning the Art of Free Publicity isn’t rocket science, but it will fuel your visibility.

Want to write a press release that gets attention? First make sure your marketing efforts are supporting you, and have a consistent message and common goal. Other tips? Listen in.
4 Tips to Write Press Release That Gets Attention
1. A press release is a press release. Nothing more. Not a pitch. Not a bio. Not an annual report. Follow an outline or a template — I have on my blog — and you’ll have a tried and true guide.
2. The 5 W’s still hold true. Who, What, Where, Why, and When. The reason you write a press release is to share information. You need to include all of this in your media release as well as other info too — like quotes, an About at the end, working links, a bio and so on.
3. Think above the fold. That means you should put your most important information at the top, kind of like an upside-down pyramid. Journalists are busy and have no time for hide and seek. You don’t want them to miss any critical information, so work from the top down. Most important info first.
4. Is your media release interesting? You don’t have to be a creative writer to write a press release, but it shouldn’t be boring either. Yes, you’re giving facts and the who, what, where, why and when — but quotes can support a catchy title that makes a journalist will keep reading. Images and video, though it may cost extra on some distribution sites may be worth the extra money.
