Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, pope and doctor of the Church. Although we might tend to "micro-manage" even God in His tasks and responsibilities and presence in our lives, the readings to day remind us to trust in the Lord, and do good. (Preached on Friday, September 3rd, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
Thursday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time. It may be frustrating to hear that Luke did not capture and reveal all of the words that Jesus was preaching. Until you realize that sometimes it is not just the preaching, or the words, or the religious activities that matter, but those that happen after or outside those exact times. (Preached on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
Thursday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time. The readings today remind us that we are to serve as signs for others who may be looking at us for a sign from God. (Preached on Thursday, August 12, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. These days, we might take for granted that God is indeed with us at all times. But is important to strive to remember this, and one way to do this is to remember the dates of commemorating some of these very special birthdays in our faith. (Preached on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
Feast of Saint Lawrence, deacon and martyr. Today is the feast day of Saint Lawrence, who infamously called "Turn me over, I'm done on this side" when being martyred by being burned. Although this is an extreme example of course, we are also asked to cheerfully give what we can, even if it is difficult. (Preached on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
Fr. Dave interviews academy award-winning actor Robert Duvall about his new movie, Get Low. They talk about the movie and it's faith themes.
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Just like firefighters are ready for action at all times, we should also contstantly prepare for the Second Coming of the Lord. (Preached on Sunday, August 8, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Today's reading includes what the church calls "the deposit of faith" - one that describes the reliance we can have, and should have, on our faith. (Preached on Friday, August 6, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
August 1st, 2010. The tale from scripture leaves us with a poignant, and even potentially funny, question: when we leave, who gets all our stuff? (Preached on Sunday, August 1st, 2010, St. Paul the Apostle Church, 59th St. and Columbus Ave., New York City)
Friday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time. What does the Latin term "gratia cooperans" mean for us? Well, literally and figuratively it means for us to "cooperate with grace." (Preached on Friday, July 30, 2010, 12:15pm, St. Malachy's Church, 49th and Broadway, Times Square, New York City)
