Things are not always what they seem. Have we become complacent and used to the mystery of the Eucharist? If so we may need to allow ourselves to be swept up.

Today we take a moment and address a difficult topic.

It may not be fun to talk about or feel irrelevant to your life but as you listen to this homily you’ll see that we’re all in need of conversion – the distant sinner as well as the one in the pew.

Are you receiving well?

Are you receiving at all?

It is my belief that most Catholics have trouble with the Eucharist and the real presence of Christ not because they dont understand but because they have a problem receiving the love of God. You may know about the Eucharist but do you receive well? Are you able to give thanks?

Listen below and ask yourself the simple question – have I noticed the gift?

The Most Holy Trinity

 

Just because you can’t understand the trinity doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. God reveals himself and makes himself known. Simply because its a mystery doesn’t mean we cant first embrace it and then share it. Today, I take a bit of a moment and talk about what it takes to embrace that mystery.

6th Sunday of Easter

 

Fear can cause us to do amazing things. In the movies it can cause a hero to accomplish things they never thought they’d be able to achieve. Every Sunday fear pushes me to prepare my homily (believe it or not… I’ve always been and remain terrified of preaching.)

They tell us that fear educes one of two reactions – fight or flight. I beg to differ.

Just look at the Apostles.

They run, they hide, the pretend, and the shake in their boots. When you really dive into the scriptues and life things are never as they seem. Its always a bit messier than our popular magazine psychology would lead us to believe.

In today’s homily I take a bit of time and talk about Christ’s surprising and counter intuitive response to our cowardly ways.

No seriously, most of us are under the false assumption that somehow heaven can be earned.

Nothing could be further from the truth. But you’re not alone. I’m right there with you.. I have the same problem.

So how can we get out of this assembled christian culture?

Encounter

As the introduction relates, this is not a homily. This weekend the deacons are preaching at the Masses but here’s is a talk that I gave at Encounter BCS, a night of worship, praise and adoration. I encourage you to attend the next one.

2nd Sunday of Easter

 

Mercy is incredibly hard to truly understand. The fact that God would loves us so much that his judgement would be his mercy is even harder to comprehend.

Yet, this Sunday we celebrate that font of mercy that is so decidedly difficult to wrap our minds around. Its as though we prefer doubt.

In today’s homily I spend sometime talking about our doubts, our unbelief and how Gods mercy has a distinct answer to our most difficult questions.
