Palm Sunday

For me, this is a short homily…

Rather than attempt to summarize or give introduction for it I think an except from its core is best.

“It seems to wasteful to pour out something so valuable on something that seems meaningless, and yet, he does the exact same thing. He takes something that is purely and utterly valuable, the divinity of his person, and pours it out all over us – we who seem so worthless. He breaks something utterly precious – his heart – for you. And not just as an academic excise but after being betrayed he says “take this and eat of it, it is my body,” I give myself to you, I pour myself out for you, who seem so worthless. And then he would do it again on the cross. Can you follow her example?”

How much power does the Devil really have? He can tempt us but can he really hurt us?

How did Christ withstand the onslaught? How did he defeat temptation.

The answer is simple – living it out is difficult.

Its pretty basic but is it? Its incredibly hard to get back to basics if we don’t remember how we began.

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

 

All of us hear the Call to be followers of Christ but not all of us respond. Why?

Many of us fail to step up to the plate because we’re more like the man in today’s scripture – we’re fearful of what the Lord would do with our yes and so our faith goes incognito.

But how can we break through this barrier? How can our faith possess a truly evangelical spirit?

The Feast of the Holy Family

 

Christmas time is a time for family, a time for gathering together and sharing our lives.  Why then is this also known as a lonely time?

Mostly this isn’t a lonely time because people don’t have family. It’s a lonely time of the year because most of us don’t know how to be family.

This Sunday Christ shows us where his priorities are – families.

Christmas Vigil Mass

Following Christ can end badly.

If you take a long look at the world its easy to see that the world isn’t always nice and things don’t always come up roses.

And yet that is not the end of the story…

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

What keeps us from accepting the invitation from God to his banquet? Why do we show up unprepared? This week I wonder, will we act on the Lords invitation and do good works?

Today the question isn’t so much “who did it” but why.  This question can really help us dive into what happened in this Sunday’s Gospel.  When we do we’ll realize that these works are not done by people in the past but here and now.
