This week I visit with my good friend Garret Kroon. Garret is a licensed counselor focusing on family and couple therapy. He specializes in anxiety and trauma working with men and young men who have experienced emotional or physical trauma. We discuss what he terms “The Father Wound”; a wound in our heart in the shape of our father.

January 27, 2020 32. Kobe Bryant Legacy
Wow! The Sporting World and our family was shocked today with the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in a horrible helicopter crash. I couldn't believe it when my son came upstairs just before Sunday Brunch to share the unbelievable fan. My son is a HUGE basketball fan so our discussion centered around the loss and legacy of such an amazing man on and off the court. Join me as we give a very small tribute to Kobe and share a personal experience I had watching Kobe not as an athlete as a dad.

January 20, 2020Ep. 31 Lean Into Your Kids
I thought I'd do a followup conversation to last week's episode of FathersFyre, "Dealing with the 'Broken' Child".
We are not in a perfect place yet but we are making progress. I realized while driving home with my daughter that I have to "Lean In" to my kids, even when they are resisting or still have that wall up. I'm sure you all know what it's like to have the cold shoulder, attitude and general dark cloud walking around your house. It may be time to lean in with a little love.

January 14, 2020Ep. 30 - Dealing with the "Broken" Child
Take a walk with me in the snow as I share a VERY challenging week with my daughter. Straight up gents, this was a week of testing my patience, my internal resolve to truly love and support my daughter as she was truly struggling with some internal challenges. Fortunately, I'm blessed with an amazing wife who provides me and we provide each other a "parent check" to make sure we are acting in a positive, loving way with our kids especially when they are being difficult.

Hey Gents, Welcome to FathersFyre. This week I share my experiences helping my daughter pack up for college and then driving down to Utah Valley University, UVU. Yes, it was a rollercoaster of emotions especially for my daughter Ke'lani and mom. We meet Coach Sam Atoa for a personal tour of UVU and hear some key words of wisdom he had for my daughter and the other new athlete joining Ke'ilani.
Coach Atoa Nuggets:
“On time is late. Be early”. It gives you time to take care of the unexpected. It gives you time to prepare.
