    Release date: 2018-11-06
    Publisher: Hachette Book Group USA

    Publisher's Summary:
'This is not just an important but an imperative project: to approach the problem of randomness and success using the state of the art scientific arsenal we have. Barabasi is the person.'--Nassim Nicholas Taleb, author of the New York Times bestselling The Black Swan and Distinguished Professor of Risk Engineering at NYU
    An international bestseller
In the bestselling tradition of Malcom Gladwell, James Gleick, and Nate Silver, prominent professor László Barabási gives us a trailblazing book that promises to transform the very foundations of how our success-obsessed society approaches their professional careers, life pursuits and long-term goals.
Too often, accomplishment does not equal success. We did the work but didn't get the promotion; we played hard but weren't recognized; we had the idea but didn't get the credit. We convince ourselves that talent combined with a strong work ethic is the key to getting ahead, but also realize that combination often fails to yield results, without any deeper understanding as to why. Recognizing this striking disconnect, the author, along with a team of renowned researchers and some of the most advanced data-crunching systems on the planet, dedicated themselves to one goal: uncovering that ever-elusive link between performance and success.
Now, based on years of academic research, The Formula finally unveils the groundbreaking discoveries of their pioneering study, not only highlighting the scientific and mathematic principles that underpin success, but also revolutionizing our understanding of: Why performance is necessary but not adequateWhy 'Experts' are often wrongHow to assemble a creative team primed for successHow to most effectively engage our networksAnd much more.

    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 11 hrs 45 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 2018-09-19

    Publisher's Summary:
Yes, you may feel unqualified, undereducated, under-gifted, or even unworthy. Yet those are excellent qualifications for God to do a mighty work. This story is a perfect example! It demonstrates how amazing things can happen as a result of sincere faith and obedience. Charles R. Swindoll
Agapes Children is the heart-warming story of how an ordinary woman responded when confronted by child beggars in Kisumu, Kenya.
Darlas story of how she rescued street children and transformed their lives by the power of Gods love, will grip your heart. Can one person really make a difference? These boys and girls, rejected by their own, hooked on glue, and sick with scabies, HIV, or worse, often run from help. How much love does it take to reach beyond their outward appearance to redeem the lives of these little people? As much love as one can give, and then some. It requires Agape love, the kind that comes from God.
On the inside, these street children are as real as you or I. Their spontaneity will make you laugh. Their vulnerability will make you may weep. And their responsiveness to the gospel of Jesus Christ will encourage you to rejoice. They are so real, Darla knew without a doubt that God loved them deeply, and He told her to do the same.
Today, instead of nearly one thousand children in the streets of Kisumu, only one hundred and sixty remain. Instead of growing up to be street thugs, these little champions are being reintegrated with family, winning life-achievement awards, and blossoming in Christ. Darla and the Agape team are changing the world, one little boy and girl at a time.

Title: Sons of Cain: A History of Serial Killers from the Stone Age to the Present
    Author: Peter Vronsky
    Narrator: Mikael Naramore
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 15 hrs
    Language: English
    Release date: 2018-08-14
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Genres: True Crime, Mystery, Thriller & Horror
    Publisher's Summary:
From the author of Serial Killers: The Method and Madness of Monsters comes an in-depth examination of sexual serial killers throughout human history, how they evolved, and why we are drawn to their horrifying crimes.
Before the term was coined in 1981, there were no 'serial killers.' There were only 'monsters'--killers society first understood as werewolves, vampires, ghouls and witches or, later, Hitchcockian psychos.
In Sons of Cain--a book that fills the gap between dry academic studies and sensationalized true crime--investigative historian Peter Vronsky examines our understanding of serial killing from its prehistoric anthropological evolutionary dimensions in the pre-civilization era (c. 15,000 BC) to today. Delving further back into human history and deeper into the human psyche than Serial Killers--Vronsky's 2004 book, which has been called 'the definitive history of the phenomenon of serial murder'--he focuses strictly on sexual serial killers: thrill killers who engage in murder, rape, torture, cannibalism and necrophilia, as opposed to for-profit serial killers, including hit men, or 'political' serial killers, like terrorists or genocidal murderers.
These sexual serial killers differ from all other serial killers in their motives and their foundations. They are uniquely human and--as popular culture has demonstrated--uniquely fascinating.

Marguerite Radclyffe-Hall was born on August 12th, 1880 to wealthy parents who separated while she was still an infant. Her parents thereafter paid little attention to her. Hall was educated privately, and then at Kings College London. Later she travelled to Europe, settling in Dresden, Germany. With the death of her paternal grandfather she inherited a large estate and was then able to live as she pleased. In Germany, Hall met Mabel Batten and fell in love despite the twenty-three year age difference. Batten gave Hall the nickname ÔJohn by which she was henceforward known in every circumstance throughout her life except in her work as an author. In 1915, Hall met and, in 1917 moved in with sculptor Una Troubridge, with whom she would remain for the rest of her life.Hall wrote poetry all throughout her twenties and thirties. She had published Dedicated to Arthur Sullivan as early as 1894, and five further volumes of collected works were released before she stopped writing poetry and published her first novel, The Forge, in 1924.That same year also saw publication of The Unlit Lamp, the first work for which Hall was known as simply Radclyffe Hall. The Well of Loneliness, the most important novel of Halls career, was published in 1928 to immediate sensation and controversy. It is Halls most direct artistic expression of her own personal sexual orientation. After the controversy of The Well of Loneliness, Hall would publish only two more novels and a collection of short stories. After years spent travelling in Italy and France and a series of long lasting affairs with other women (of which Troubridge was apparently aware), Hall retired with Troubridge to Rye, in East Sussex. Here, suffering from tuberculosis, she also underwent eye surgery and thereafter had difficulty reading and writing. On October 7, 1943, Radclyffe Hall died from colon cancer at the age of sixty-three. She is buried in Highgate Cemetery in London. This volume comes to you from Portable Poetry, a specialized imprint from Deadtree Publishing.
