Time to wrap up Excommunic-April by attending Midnight Mass, specifically the episode of revelations, "Book III: Proverbs." We talk about career pathways in the Catholic church, weaponizing faith as a means of control, and just how restoration and sin are tied together in this compelling series.
Next week is the May the Fierce Protect You drag brunch, hosted by Distant Echoes: A Star Wars Podcast where proceeds will benefit the He/She/Ze/We charity. Live stream and in-person tickets are available now.

When joined by Alyssa Gray of the Silver Scream podcast, we couldn't help but to think that it's "an excellent day for an exorcism" as we cover the 1973 religious horror tentpole film, The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin and adapted for the screen by William Peter Blatty, based on his own novel.
Hot take: this is a good movie, and to support that thesis, we'll look at how the cosmic stakes of good versus evil are played across the small cast of characters. Double hot take: we need a Kinderman spinoff about him looking for boyfriend who loves movies.

Excommunic-April continues with an ancient evil once sealed away that has been unleashed! No, I'm not talking about the character who influenced Halloween costumes everywhere in 2016, the demon Valak, but instead the horror unleashed is the 2018 film, The Nun, directed by Corin Hardy.
We talk about the film's ability to skillfully dodge interesting subplots to provide more time for zombie nuns who are hard to see in unlit scenes. We almost lose our way as a podcast, but are saved by the literal blood of Jesus Christ.
You know, Jar Jar was a senator for the people of Naboo, and he would want you to mark your calendars for the May the Fierce Protect You drag brunch of galactic proportions, hosted by Distant Echoes: A Star Wars Podcast where proceeds will benefit the He/She/Ze/We charity. Welcome to Excommunic-April where we are covering religious and Catholic horror all month long. And there's no better place to start than the 2022 video game compilation, Faith: The Unholy Trinity developed by Airdorf Games and published by New Blood Interactive!
We gush about rotoscoping, hot priests, computer voices, and the incredibly effective pray-em-up mechanics of this righteously difficult arcade adventure game.

Prepare to be edged by four guys in the woods as we're joined by guest Doug Fink to discuss the 2017 film The Ritual, directed by David Bruckner and adapted by Joe Barton from the novel by Adam Nevill.
We talk about what works which is not a lot as we pitch ideas for a much better film, but Moder watches us all, even as we discuss how we would pull off a multi-person Halloween costume of this ancient horror.

This is a company town and nothing can stand in the way of the evil of capitalism except what lies beneath and what lies around. We talk about the 2019 anthology horror fiction podcast The Old Gods of Appalachia, written by Steve Shell and Cam Collins.

It is time to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man from 1973. Any maypole is a goal as Queer as Folk Horror month continues with this classic film, notably not with Nicolas Cage, directed by Robin Hardy. Beatles are on threads, there are wild music cues, and it is all kinds of sexy up in here!

Queer as Folk Horror continues as we trade flowers for cakes for workmen in the point-and-click adventure, The Excavation of Hob's Barrow developed by Shaun Aitcheson of Cloak and Dagger Games. We discuss Victorian pants-wearing heroine, Thomasina (Samantha Beart, aka Karlach), as we navigate the moors and discover the truth that lies beneath the titular barrow (and answer the question "what's a barrow?").

Let's kick off Queer as Folk Horror month by taking a little journey. That's right, it's time to go on a trip (geographical, to Sweden; and metaphorical, under the influence of substances) as we take on the 2019 film, Midsommar, written and directed by Ari Aster. But in the end, maybe the real journey was the friends who really sucked along the way. The sun never sets on the Hårga empire as we talk about horror in broad daylight, communalism, and hey, what's in these pies anyway?

We are wrapping up Furry February by celebrating a fowl and feathery flock in Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 film, The Birds. While we all came for some terrorizing birds, imagine how happy we were to discover a beautiful queer romance, but these girlfriends aren't able to love because of a swarm of gull-fiends! We also talk about men poured into sweaters, children continuing to deserve all the harms in the world, and the misogyny of Hollywood in the 1960s.
