What would you do if you were a solicitor from London in a strange land where there was chicken paprikash on the menu and your host was a strange Count who never drank......wine? What if your host had three horny wives who were constantly tasting your blood....among other things? What if you discovered that the Count did not need food to live, but instead existed on blood? We're discussing the big bad granddad of horror himself, Bram Stoker's immortal novel Dracula and its many film variations, in today's episode, along with Transylvanian recipes, absinthe and Bloody Marys, bloody slabs of roast beef, and all thing vampiric, so please join us!
We're back, Constant Listeners, with a brand-new season kicking off in two weeks. This time, we're taking on those sexy, blood-sucking fiends known as vampires, and analyzing how the use of food (and ingestion of blood) play a significant role in films and books about the nosferati itself. We'll cover vampire classics that everyone knows, like 'Salem's Lot, Interview with the Vampire, and of course, the big bad granddad of horror, Dracula. We'll also cover newer books and movies whilst sucking your blood, so please join us this season!
What would you do if you found out you were not only adopted but came from a line of 13 witches from New Orleans? What if all of your witchy ancestors were haunted by a mysterious and terrifying spirit? What if the man you wanted to marry was connected to your New Orleans family and, after a near-death experience started experiencing psychic phenomena? What if you and he moved back to New Orleans, moved into the decaying family mansion, inherited billions of dollars, spent your days renovating the house and eating grits and eggs and drinking lots of bourbon? What if the ghostly spirit started to haunt you emotionally and sexually? Would you drown your terror in red beans and rice and oysters? Or would you help this spirit to enter the world of humans by giving birth to a baby that the spirit could possess? We'll discuss these famishingly fascinating questions and discuss the connection between food and horror in Anne Rice's 1990 masterpiece The Witching Hour and the less-than-masterful TV miniseries The Mayfair Witches based on the book, so please join us!

Are you ready for a chilling glimpse into next week's episode...?
Now what would you do if you and your sister found out that you came from a long line of witches, including your two aunts who raised you? What would you do if your sister ran off with one crazy man and came back years later with another crazy man that you had to kill.....twice? Worse yet, what if his evil spirit continued to haunt you and your sister and the family home? What would you do if you were raising your own two daughters to be mini witches, complete with herbs, cooking and baking, and they started casting spells on each other as a result? What if your witchy aunts insisted on having midnight margaritas with you and your sister - surely you wouldn't say no to midnight margaritas, would you? What if the spell you cast on yourself to never fall in love with anyone other than an impossible man came true and the impossible man showed up at your door asking questions about the dead guy? What if you spent your time pushing him away and also trying to impress him with your cooking, including olive and cream cheese sandwiches, apple tarts, stuffed mushrooms, marshmallow pies, and pot roast? We'll discuss these hungrily horrifying questions and analyze the connection between food and horror (and witchcraft!) in the novel Practical Magic and the 1998 film of the same name, so please join us!

A tastily terrifying preview of next week's episode!
What would you do if you were a woman in the early 1900s living with your family who drove you bonkers with their constant demands, particularly for cooking such things as roast duck and gooseberry fool? What if the chance came for you to escape and live in the wonderfully named village of Great Mop, and even though you'd never lived alone before and the strange nighttime noises in your new home were scary, you were still free of your awful family? What if, one day, you discovered a kitten that followed you home and became your familiar? What if your dreadful nephew showed up to live with you and refused to move out? Wouldn't you find a coven of witches in your new town and join up? What if one afternoon you went into the woods and let out a primal scream that invoked Satan himself? You'd surely make a pact with him to get rid of your nephew, and his constant demands for tea, sponge cake, jam puff, mushrooms and toasted cheese, bread, beer and blackberry pudding, right? We'll discuss these terrifyingly tasty questions and analyze the connection between food and horror in 1926's classic tale of witchcraft Lolly Willowes, so please join us!

A scarily scrumptious taste of next week's episode!
They say that all those good and bad qualities you get come from either your mother or father. In this case, both our young heroines have inherited witchy powers from their dear mamas - another reason to blame your parents for everything in your life. We're talking witchcraft, mothers and daughters, Wicca, eggs, men cooking meat on grills, pizza because what teen horror flick would be complete without a pizza scene, and the dynamics of high school misfits as we analyze the connection between food in horror in 1996's The Craft and the Blumhouse 2020 sequel The Craft Legacy, so please join us!
