Today we’re going to be talking about CTE and reflect on the way the League has handled illegal contact on the ice. Slew foots, knee-on-knees and head injuries have already become far too common in this season already, and since NHL player safety has so far proven to be both inconsistent and untrustworthy in how they evaluate and penalize players, the NHL lacking in player health and safety protections for both current and retired players, conversations around CTE are especially important for us to have.
CW: This episode will involve light Discussions of suicide, depression, and anxiety

Jim Benning is on the hot seat for the Vancouver Canucks, and Marc Bergevin has outlived his welcome with the Montreal Canadiens, and Bob Murray and Stan Bowman have left their respective teams amid scandals. With so many NHL General Managers under the microscope lately, Sam and I wanted to break down the ‘NHL GM’.
Sam and I first tackle what it takes to be an NHL GM, and what the job entails. What makes a good GM, and how does their role affect the overall success of the team on the ice?
Then, we interweave a conversation about power and accountability, and what the future holds for the league and this position, including a conversation about the importance of adaptability, workplace environment, and demographics.

What is hockey culture?
Today we’re talking about who owns athlete’s bodies, by looking through the lens of the Jack Eichel and Buffalo Sabres situation. We’ll begin by taking you through a complete timeline of the events from Jack Eichel’s injury to today (mid-October), discuss the importance of self-ownership, and then end with our last thoughts on why the NHLPA should (or shouldn’t) get involved.
