Feelin' Film

We boldly go where Feelin' Film has not gone before - into the romance zone. This week we're talking about a beloved romantic classic, based on a book by celebrated author Nicholas Sparks, it's The Notebook. Our conversation leads places we didn't expect that it would and we discover a depth to this story that really resonated with us both. It's a week unlike any other so sit back and enjoy the discussion.

March's Donor Pick episode is a favorite of ours and gives us a reason to praise the late, great Bill Paxton as well. Tombstone is a classic Western action-adventure with one of the greatest ensemble casts ever assembled and perhaps the most quotable script of all-time. But it also offers us a chance to talk about themes of family, loyalty, and what it means to fight against your nature. Thank you, Patreon supporters, for picking this awesome flick for us to talk about. We had a blast and we hope you will too when listening.

This week we are talking about the newest film from the writers of Zombieland and Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson, among others. Life is a fast-paced sci-fi horror/thriller in space that tells the story of what happens to a space station after they discover the first life from Mars. Not every movie needs to have incredible depth to be a fun viewing experience. We discuss that, why telling similar stories is okay, and more in this new episode.

In this landmark 50th episode, we discuss Disney's newest live-action remake, Beauty and the Beast. Is it better than the original? Does it even matter? Is Emma Watson a good enough Belle? Are the new songs worthy of the classics? We answer these burning questions and more as we celebrate almost a year of podcasting with this magical new film.

This week we are covering the second of our two listener chosen episodes based on voting compiled from films recommended using the #FeelThisFilm hashtag. The winning movie was Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and we couldn’t be more excited to discuss this awesome and unique film experience. There is nothing quite like this creative graphic novel adaptation by Edgar Wright. We just might be in lesbians with this one.

Don Shanahan joins the show for a discussion about the return of Kong to the big screen. This latest monster movie provides plenty of thrilling, towering action sequences that are worthy of the King. We talk about the different style of creature features over the years and whether or not character development is necessary for a good blockbuster. So push play on this episode and find out why we think Kong is back and here to stay.

In this episode we discuss Logan, what could be the final chapter in Hugh Jackman’s incredible run as Marvel comic superhero Wolverine. This latest installment is R-rated and offers us the gritty, ultra-violent picture of Wolverine that many know from comics but have never seen portrayed on screen. It was quite the ride and so we’ve called in some back-up from Francisco and Paul of the Retro Rewind Podcast to help us break it down. Enjoy this super podcast team-up!

In this minisode, horror writer and superfan Blake Collier joins the show to discuss Get Out, the new hit film from freshman director Jordan Peele. Get Out is a special film that has managed to subvert the genre in many ways and become not only a fantastic thrill ride but also an important social commentary on race in America today. We do our best in this conversation to remain sensitive to those who truly do experience the fear that Peele's film lets us have a glimpse of. So come along as we unpack the narrative choices in Get Out and how they might just teach us all something about life that we weren't expecting.

Aaron is joined by two new Feelin' Film writing contributors, Steve Clifton and Don Shanahan, to give our reactions to the 2017 Oscars and also the first ever listener voted on Feeler's Choice Awards. One of the most shocking award ceremonies ever provides us plenty to discuss, debate, and consider.
