Feelin' Film

Another DC superhero movie, another wave of negative reviews. But is there enjoyment to be had in this film? We think so and highlight all the best parts of what turned out to be a surprisingly fun film despite its flaws.

We kick off the 2016 Summer Olympics by talking about arguably the greatest film ever made within the setting. The themes are deep and emotional content wide in this powerful story about class, religion, and honor.

Special guest Andrew Dyce, editor at Screenrant.com and co-host of the Total Geekall podcast, joins us to discuss a concerning trend of negative groupthink toward films and angry fandom. Using films such as Batman v Superman, Avatar, and Ghostbusters, we try to figure out why moviegoers are so enamored with hating films instead of loving them.

We boldly go where no podcast has gone before to discuss the newest film in the rebooted Star Trek movie universe. Does Star Trek Beyond amount to more than just Fast and Furious in space? And if that's all it is, is that even a bad thing? The fandom comes out in this one so buckle up and enjoy the conversation as we go full ahead.

We take a trip to the awe-inspiring world of Tomorrowland this week and discuss how marketing has a major impact on the expectations of moviegoers. Regardless of story choices, this is a film with a fantastic message about creativity and imagination.

As pet owners we get giddy over seeing what our beloved animals might be up to when we're not home. But does The Secret Life of Pets have more to offer from its adventure story, or is it too many gags and not enough substance? We discuss our experience with what is undeniably a fun and gorgeous look into the unknown lives of our most beloved companions.

This week we try not to get our words muggled while we discuss Steven Spielberg's latest whoopsy waffling film based on a beloved children's book. The movie presents an opportunity for us to discuss the value of enjoying a theater experience without it leaving a lasting impression and also rave about some amazing special effects work.

We go deep into The Shallows to examine whether this is just another shark attack movie or something with a little more heart. Part horror, part drama, all awesome is our consensus for this gorgeously shot survivor movie.

This week we give Chappie a second chance. Can it possibly be as bad as reviews would have you believe? We think there is an awful lot of good in the film, including some big ideas worth thinking about. We discuss these, Blomkamp's reputation, and his unique style of filmmaking as we dig into what Chappie can offer us to consider.

Patrick & Aaron set off on a journey to find meaning in Pixar's latest animated feature. We promise this episode isn't in whale language, but we were tempted to try. This picture is more than just its laughs and grins; it tells an important story about living with disabilities, accepting them, and overcoming them. We try to do it justice, as well as have some fun reminiscing about all the fun characters we meet along the way.
