This week Paul continues his argument against the false teachers who want the Galatians to be under the Law. He returns to his theme of Abraham and his descendants, but this time Paul shows how the history argues against the false teachers.

To be a son brings sorrow to some, joy to others. But to know that we are sons of God should bring immense joy (even to the females among us) Paul explains in our passage.

Chapter 3 opens by showing that we need the gospel to live the Christian life. This raises a question of the role of the Law in God’s plans. Paul turns to that next in Galatians 3.

Introduction

In Galatians 2:11-21 Paul rebuked Peter for acting as if Jesus’ sacrifice was not enough. Then Paul defended that justification must be by faith. In Chapter 3, Paul continues by showing the ongoing need for faith.

The gospel is the foundation of the Christian faith. A Christian believes and cherishes the gospel. Unfortunately, since we are sinful people, it’s all too easy to get out of sync with the gospel in our daily living.

Galatians 1:10-24 established that Paul’s message was true because it came from the Lord, not men. In 2:1-10, Paul shows that church leaders affirmed his message, resulting in a remarkable unity.

There are literally thousands of religious beliefs that people subscribe to. How can we be sure that the Gospel that Paul preached is really true?

Galatians is a call to freedom – especially freedom from trying to earn God’s acceptance. Unfortunately, many Galatians were tempted to leave behind their freedom. The same is true today.

The Gospel of Mark calls us to respond to Jesus by repenting, believing, and following Him. This week’s passage shows us the deep devotion of a woman who follows Jesus extravagantly.

The approach to heaven can be confusing. At one time Jesus received a bunch of irresponsible kids and immediately after He sent away a super responsible man who had striven his whole life to obey and honor God. What must we know?
