The Gospel of Mark declares that Jesus, the Son of God, calls people to a new kind of life. This new life is lived by pursuing Jesus. Throughout the Gospel, Mark shows a variety of responses to Jesus.

Jonah 4 is one of the most shocking chapters in the Bible. We finally learn the real reason he ran from Nineveh. Jonah’s small view of God’s character limited the prophet’s compassion for others. The book leaves us wondering if Jonah ever softened his heart.

We want to appear perfect, but repentance has an incredibly important part to play in our lives. As Jonah reaches Nineveh, it’s even more important for them. If we are to experience the mercy of the God of 2nd chances, we’ll need to repent.

Have you ever been helpless facing a hopeless problem? That's where Jonah found himself after running from God's assignment. Jonah needed to turn around and see again that God is the only hope for anyone.

When a child of God is disobedient, there are times that the Lord, out of His rich love for us, will use difficulty to get our attention, in hopes of changing our hearts and minds. (Hebrews 12:7-10) Jonah ran from the will of God and the very presence of God. He experienced God’s disciplinary hand.

Introduction

Is this a good assignment or a bad assignment? That tension lies underneath the book of Jonah. It is a tension all of us face at times. Has God given us a good assignment or a bad assignment? How will we respond to the assignments God gives us?

The Lord blesses the church with godly leaders. In ordination, we recognize that God uniquely gifted Adam for pastoral leadership. We also commit to supporting his leadership.

Introduction

Jesus resurrection was a turning point in history, but is that all it is? Is it just a moment in history to remember or does it have relevance to us today?

At the Triumphal Entry, Jesus presented Himself as King. His people did not understand what that required of them. Perhaps we should ask, "Do we?"

Why do we celebrate communion? We know it reminds us that Jesus died for us. But there might be more to it. It also invites us to look ahead and to be changed in the present.
