This week Mike Hassi leads us to reflect on why God’s people are to “make a joyful noise”: It’s because the King of Israel will be the God of Israel! The King is the LORD?!
This is, of course, the hope that is fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ, “A Savior who is Christ, The LORD.”.
We can celebrate with such great joy because our King is The LORD!

This week Geremiah Krause leads us to reflect on what God deserves: God deserves ever new songs of praise. Why? Because of His great salvation, His steadfast love, and His generous heart. All of which come to us most powerfully, and are seen most clearly, at the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Habakkuk’s response, prayer, song of Habakkuk 3 models for us the final let of the journey from anger sorrow and fear to joy strength and song. First, we realize that who God is and what God does is what we need. Second, that our journey into joy will be, therefore, a journey into life with God, through Jesus Christ our Lord..

Habakkuk lays out a mock-eulogy in Habakkuk 2. Who for? For all the glories of The Empire.
All the glories of the world, he says, will fill a furnace. But the glories of our God will fill the whole earth full.

Today we observed together the Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.
Our text, Habakkuk 1:1-4, was divinely appropriate.
In it, God instructs us how to begin to deal with our sorrow, anger, and fear at the injustice of the world, and how to move from there on to the joy and flourishing of the end of Habakkuk.
And the journey begins with knowing the freedom of the Covenant so we can rest in faith in God.

In our short text, we hear the people of Judah complaining that God won’t give them good lives. But in fact, that’s all He’s ever been trying to give them, from literally the beginning.
Micah 6:8 is a beautiful summary of the good life God “requires” of His people.
What God says is right is what’s good, and there’s nothing better..

Micah concludes with some intense things: final sentencing, lamentations. But also a statement of faith.
Where does Micah get his faith from, in the face of society wide injustice and divine judgments? He gets his faith from his worship.
He knows he will worship. So now he can wait.

Micah centers around a faith-tension—Why are you looking to these political leaders and listening to these spiritual leaders whom God will not pay attention to? Which is bad enough by itself. But in Micah 4:9 the prophet draws attention to an extraordinary reality which makes their situation all the more foolish: They have God’s great King in them. They exist around and under the kingship of God and the hope of God’s Messiah. How can they live like they need leadership?

Micah 1-2 begins with the message that the leaders of this world will lead us into doom, but God’s King, Jesus Christ, will lead us through.
So let us not listen to them or follow them, but listen to and follow Him as He leads us to address, and not avoid, justice.
