  • Self Regulate Worry with Joyful Play- Crissy Day

Self Regulate Worry with Joyful Play

    CRISSY DAY Yoga Sprout Studio

    Show Notes:

Find joy and a sense of play even when times are hard with yoga. When she noticed that she was losing herself in a domestic abusive relationship she started to do small things to increase her worth and get the courage to ask for help.  It catapulted her into a yoga career, where she has been working with children, adults, and families teaching them to introduce mindful play.

Noticing that she began to lose herself, her dreams and friendships, she knew that needed to change.    It took a mind shift to get out of that relationship. The mind shift started with small habit changes.  It didn’t happen overnight.  She started to leave for work a little early for a cup of coffee, and make time for herself.

Being alone was her biggest fear.  She felt guilt and blame but she realized that those were not valid fears.  It’s natural to want to run from our fears but facing just being alone was the most powerful healing she could have ever had.  She found out how amazing it was to be alone, learned how to quite her mind.  It led to positive people coming into her life.

How did she channel the worry into something positive?  She balanced the fear with joy.  We can use the energy from fear and instead channel it into a positive.  The practice of yoga grounded her.

She shares a breathing technique to help you relax by sending the breath lower like a newborn baby. In through the nose, out through the mouth with a slow belly breathe.  You can practice it anywhere.  Breath in a happy thought, like anything that makes you feel good.

Kids are more likely to be more mindful after class.  They get a chance to listen, relax and rest.  Find a connection that your child is interested in to get them interested in yoga. She also gives tips on how to let kids explore their creativity with yoga. Grown-ups need joyful play too.

She had her life mapped out but realized that she was worth making the change to begin again.  That it’s okay to redo things.  When things aren’t working, there is a chance to do it another way.  There is always a new beginning around the corner and we don’t need to be locked into a certain path.

  • Conquering Big Things with Small Steps

Conquering Big Things with Small Steps

Megan Franco Fox03 Sauna + Wellness in Sherwood Oregon

We dubbed her the Charlize Theron lookalike for her gorgeous profile pic!  Tune in for an amazing story of determination even with the fear of loss and not knowing what the future held. It is about conquering big things like child Leukemia, divorce, risk of foreclosure with small steps of hope that led to healing, vacations, family bonding, and lasting friendships.

Coming to crossroads after many years of marriage was very difficult.

She became a single mother and entered the workforce, which made her feel like she had it down. When her youngest son was just 5 years old she got some life-changing news.  They survived 3 years of intense treatment.

During the first year of shock and as a possible form of self-preservation, she followed every piece of advice that she was given for treatment.  She did feel helpless and then realized she had to do something to help her son. She began doing everything she could do on the outside of her son's body to keep him comfortable. Beginning with things that were easy and safe like essential oils. While she doesn't know if they were a Placebo or if they helped or not, her son was excited to have his own rollerball.   She also bought an infrared sauna and put it in her living room but waited until he was done with treatment to help with his muscle pain.  What it quickly turned into was time for her to have a little self-care.

She learned so much about friendships.  There were so many people who came out of the woodwork she had never even met.  She realized that some people don’t know how to respond to traumatic experiences but understood that they didn’t want to bother her with things that seemed insignificant.  She talks about what you could do to support a friend going through something like this.  Sometimes, it’s the little things like just coming around.  We went over dealing with unsolicited advice.

A lot of it is just out of our control.  This taught her to begin living differently with different intentions.  Every milestone was a big deal.  None of us are promised tomorrow and you have to start doing things. Stop worrying about the things you can’t control.  She shares the perfect way to celebrate the end of the treatment.  Spend the money and take a trip to make memories. Think of small things to move forward. Procrastination is a different form of fear.  She talks about the adjustments of everything being fine. She’s open about PTSD. Once life was more stable it started settling in she had fears of Sawyer getting sick.  For her to think about it every day is the worse thing she could do and she understood that worrying about things that were out of her control was not the answer.

She did get remarried. Saved the house from foreclosure. Her boys are doing well.  She opened up a new business and is bringing Infrared Saunas to the community.

  • How to not let the idea of perfection prevent you from getting started with our guest Sally Keasler.

    Interview with Sally Keasler

How to not let the idea of perfection keep you from getting started

In our interview with Sally Keasler, she shares wisdom from her many years as a serial entrepreneur. Her life as an entrepreneur started with a perfumery business. She has a passion for helping others see how they can live their best life and make their contribution to the world. She has a small educational group called “Gather and Grow Together”, she also leads nutritional classes, as well as personal development classes. Her current project is an Organic tea company.

Sally a self pro-claimed pragmatist, grew up with a father who was a businessman and mother who was a secretary. She grew up going to boarding school, she describes it as Harry Potter style with uniforms in a creepy old mansion. She gained a lot of independence and exposure to other students from all over the world. Traveling was one of her best childhood memories.

Give us a time when you felt fear and went for something anyway?

Sally took over a perfumery shop when she had no background as a dermatologist or in skin care. She realized quickly ingredients where being put into a product that she didn’t stand behind. “At the beginning when you start something you don’t need to know it all.”

Why is it bad to constantly second guess ourselves?

Sally gives a story about her rebellion that may have pushed her to become a fighter pilot. She goes through her story and the process of trying to find her motives. Was she just trying to prove others wrong or was she really being honest with herself? She also gives her experience trying to bring up an organic tea company even though she is not an expert in this area. She gives examples of how to build confidence through trial and error. “Are you or are you not being true to yourself?”

Why is it important not to look for other’s approval on measuring yourself self-worth?

Sally talks about finding our worth in ourselves and not relying on others to fulfill that need to feel worthy. “The very word itself, self-worth means it comes from yourself.”

How can we enjoy the present moment without waiting for the “I’ll be happy when moment?"

Sally speaks about the danger of not living in the now and how to remember to enjoy the present moment. The lack of nurturing relationships now and not caring for them can have long term effects.

What are things we can change about our mindset?

Sally gives us examples of the stories we make up in our heads about fear and how we can focus on the present moment. “Accept that the unknown is okay, just sit with that.”

Right now Sally shares a passion for skiing all over the world with her husband while growing her Organic Tea Company called Mama-Te-a.
