Once the next season of grandparenting comes, we are then faced with how to navigate our role in a way that is supportive and not parental. Building healthy relationships with our adult children is a journey that begins when they are young and continues to evolve as they grow. Dr. Harley encourages listeners to be intentional in how we relate to our adult children, by communicating clearly then respecting their decisions and guidelines especially once they become parents themselves. • FR Ep #244 Living Life Awake with Kristin Walker
Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about living life awake by understanding how our brains work and how we can shift them. Kristin Walker brings her years of research on how to develop our neural wiring to initiate desired behaviors instead of being directed by autopilot. Our brains are always working for us but they operate from what we’ve learned and known from our upbringing, people’s inputs and life’s experiences. When we reach midlife we are often doing what we’ve always done and may not even know why. Kristin encourages listeners to wake up to their thoughts and behaviors, to begin to live life awake. The key is to live life awake is listening to what you think and say then questioning those beliefs. From there as we take the time to reflect on what it is we want, who we want to be we begin to get back in the driver’s seat. Just as these thoughts have been wired into our brains to become our dominant beliefs and behaviors, they can be rewired by rewriting the stories we’ve been telling ourselves. Our brain is for us so as we consistently rewire through intentionally shifting our thoughts and beliefs, it will begin to lead in that new direction. • FR Ep #243 How to Identify Emotional Abuse with Mariette Jansen
Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about how to identify emotional abuse with Mariette Jansen. Mariette is a survivor of narcissism abuse and has used her experience to write 2 books. Her goal is to help people to identify if they are experiencing emotional abuse, looking for ways to recognize and also deal with their day to day situation. In this conversation she shares four rules that a narcissist lives by. 1) This is who I am. 2) This is how I see you. 3) Behavior- how they bully. 4) Relationships – how they see it. She breaks down how the victim becomes entangled in the twisted behaviors of the abuser like blaming, fault finding, consistent put downs, and punishment. Mariette offers strategies to help listeners understand what is happening and how they can begin to break free. Once victims can identify the emotional abuse there are steps they can take like changing their internal dialogue, the story the abuser has been writing all along. Mariette encourages victims to begin to put themselves at the center of their universe by respecting, loving and treating themselves well. As that shift takes place it can minimize the noise on the line- the emotionally abusive stories- so the real truth can surface. As the truth surfaces it will take work to break free, heal and grow but it is doable. If you or someone you know is a victim of emotional abuse or lives with a narcissist, this episode is for you. • FR Ep #242 The Power of Intention with Dr Greg Hammer
Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about the power of intention with Dr. Greg Hammer. Dr. Greg talks about how his GAIN meditation method empowers us to facilitate healing and develop a healthy mind. Suffering is a universal experience but it doesn’t have to be the defining factor in our lives. When we experience pain and we resist it, it causes more suffering. Dr. Greg reminds us that while we can’t avoid pain, we can shift the way we view it to begin to serve us instead of hurt us more. Gratitude is the first step in the GAIN method – recognizing that we all have something or someone to be grateful for every day. Gratitude has a powerful healing impact on the brain and we can tap into that anytime we choose. Next is acceptance- the ability to embrace and acknowledge the painful things that have happened to us and stop resisting them. Acceptance allows us to begin to discern what we can and cannot change. Once we understand that we can turn our energy toward more supportive thoughts and habits. That leads right in to the I in the GAIN method- intention. Intention is the way we choose to see and think about what happens to and around us. Intention allows us to be proactive when and where we can. Dr. Greg encourages listeners to start an end of day practice called 3 good things. Three good things is simply stating three things that they experienced throughout the day that brought them joy or enjoyment. While it can be done internally, it can also be recorded so we can see the build up of the good things in our lives. And the final step is non-judgement- being able to go through our days without needing to see people and experiences as good or bad. Dr. Greg encourages benevolent indifference – moving through our days without anger, frustration and resistance. The power of intention allows us to get and stay in the drivers seat. If you or a loved one could use a tool to regain a sense of happiness and contentment in your day to day living, join us. Grab a cuppa something wonderful and press play. • FR Ep #241 A Holistic Approach to Healing Co-Dependency with Mary Joye
Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about a holistic approach to healing co-dependency with Mary Joye. As a recovering co-dependent Mary brings a great sense of compassion to the conversation around healing co-dependency. There is no judgement, there are strategies to help create awareness to ways we might be functioning co=dependently and how to begin to heal. Mary also talks about trauma bonds, psychological as well as physiological responses, that can help bring understanding to what is behind our co-dependent behaviors. One of the powerful tools is connecting the dots between the past and present, the overarching patterns that emerge. She also defines co-dependency and explains the difference between servanthood and servitude. Servanthood is being of service and comes from your own sense of compassion whereas servitude is placed upon you putting you in a place of constant service (think Cinderella). Mary encourages recovering co-dependents that boundaries are not meant to keep people out but rather to keep us safe and healthy. In this episode she talks honestly about the journey of healing from co-dependency, the reality of relapsing into old habits from time to time. The powerful part is that healing is possible as we go through the steps to embrace, replace and erase the co-dependent habits using the steps Mary teaches. • FR EP #238 Pro-Aging in Beast Mode with Gail Gensler
Today on Feminine Roadmap we’re talking about pro-aging in beast mode with Gail Gensler. Gail is on a mission to build a community of women (and men) who do not fear the years but stand up and live midlife in beast mode. She is encouraging midlifers that we can age well, with enthusiasm to the best of our ability in the most healthful way. We can shift the paradigm from anti-aging to pro-aging – seeing life as a grand adventure. Gail believes in investing in the power of female collaboration, getting us to sing from the same song sheet, embracing our differences and getting the pro-aging message out there. She strives to motivate and inspire us to renew ourselves, find our health, and to go do things that we enjoy. We can live in a way that adds value back into the world. We do have the opportunity and choice not to buy into the cultural narrative and live boldly in midlife and beyond. Our conversation is for every person who wants to stand up, be seen, be represented for who we are, where we are not for who anyone else says we should be after “a certain age”. It’s time to go into midlife beast mode! Embrace that pro-aging mindset, don’t let society dictate our lives, and keep challenging ourselves to find out what we’re capable of.
