Feminists Without Mystique episodes

  • Ep 95: PUAs, Incels, Misogyny, oh my!
We begin by mourning the loss of Chadwick Boseman, and then take some time to discuss the last week of events in Kenosha and Portland. We focus a longer conversation on the real harm of pick up artists (PUAs) and involuntary celibates (incels), and the toxicity of the broader "manosphere," since male supremacist groups are often a gateway to further radicalization. Many men move from male supremacist to white supremacist, and the threats from these large and growing hate groups are generally minimized if not ignored by most government agencies.
We see you: Scott Atlas, Wisconsin legislature, Office of Director of National Intelligence, Mitch McConnell, Republicans doctoring videos, white men who ignore cops and aren't shot

  • Ep 94: This Week in Trump News
We attempt to sift through a few of the top stories from the last week, from Louis DeJoy’s Congressional testimony to Steve Bannon’s arrest (by postal inspectors, on a yacht!) to Kellyanne Conway's resignation (byebye!) to New York AG probing deeper into Trump's finances and wanting to depose Eric Trump, to the batshit first night of the RNC. It’s a lot. We also take some time at the top of the episode to discuss the latest police brutality against Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and address a couple of conservative talking points that just won’t go away, no matter what the circumstances or how obvious the police violence.
We see you: Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell Jr, the Republicans surveyed who think the amount of COVID deaths is acceptable, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Michael Oxford, Marjorie Taylor Green

  • Ep 91: Incompetence & Corruption in the White House
We have a wide-ranging conversation about the rampant corruption and staggering incompetence in the White House, specifically focused on Jared Kushner and the bizarre news that his coordinated national COVID response plan was spiked for political reasons. We also discuss Trump's embarrassing interview with Axios, his casually authoritarian tweet about moving the US presidential election, and his active undermining of the USPS. Lots going on, none of it good!

  • Ep 89: What You Don't Know Can't Hurt Trump
Maria is solo this episode, while Erin's on her honeymoon - yay! This episode focuses on the quarantine depletion we all feel; personally, emotionally, professionally, cosmically as we cope with this endless public health crisis. Maria also discusses the unconstitutional, frightening raids happening in Portland, OR and then rants about a few other bullshit things from the past week (Roger Stone, Trump violating the emoluments clause...woof, it's like 2017 all over again). The title of the epsiode is based on a recent New York Times op-ed by Paul Krugman.

We see you: Rep. Ted Yoho, Ginni Thomas, Roy Den Hollander

  • Ep 88: Evaluating Trump's Campaign Promises
We run through Trump's campaign promises from 2016, and evaluate whether or not he's actually kept those promises. With the 2020 election coming up, we think it's important to take a look back at what Trump has actually accomplished in his presidency, and how it aligns with what he promised while campaigning.

We see you: sexist vending machines, Oregon police allying themselves with proud boys, Royta Giles Jr., Bret Stephens, white people who refuse to accept the existence of white privilege, Des Moines PD

  • Ep 87: TERF Revisited: Q&A
We spend some time discussing the tragic murder of Vanessa Guillén, but focus most of our time addressing listener questions and comments following our last episode on TERFs and J.K. Rowling. It was a good opportunity to dig deeper into the topic and 'show our work' - for lack of a better term.
