Fergo and The Freak NRL & Rugby League Podcast

In this episode we have a chat with Ben Darwin and Simon Strachan who are co-founders of Gain Line Analytics.

We talk about how Covid has everted the cohesion of clubs across different sports, how the Penrith Panthers rank in terms of their first grade team and their ability to build the club through their junior pathways, we chat about the Melbourne Storm and their continued success and how after the top couple of teams ing the NRL there is a big fight for finals positions among a big group of clubs.

They brought up some very interesting things, such as the possibility that the Wests Tigers will look better as the season goes on but could still miss the top 8, how the New Zealand Warriors have never really taken advantage of the State Of origin period, and how no matter who you are, an out of Sydney team is disadvantaged by the Grand Final always being in Sydney.

It was a great chat!

There were some interesting selections in this side so Freaky casts his eye over all of them.

In this episode Jessica Dunne joins the podcast for a long chat about the Newcastle Knights and their season from hell.

We chat about the early season expectations and how this Knights team just doesn't have any fight in them for some reason.

Jessica then explains to Freaky the new broadcasting deal signed by the FA, formerly the FFA, formerly Soccer Australia. She takes us through how the A League is going, the upcoming Women's World Cup, some of the issues the game in Australia faces but also some of its positive points as well.

Jessica also doesn't throttle Freaky when he keeps calling it Soccer! :-D

In this episode League Freak talks a little about the messy situation at the Canberra Raiders after the immediate release of George Williams from his contract with the club.

James Hooper has been copping it for his reporting and the Raiders themselves have been criticised. So, who is telling the truth in all of this? We will find out eventually.

Freaky then lists the four players he would love to see State Of Origin one played at if the MCG can't be used.

A little bit of player movement news, a little bit of Super League talk, and a look to the next week of shows.

In this episode we have a chat about the ridiculous scenes we saw during Magic Weekend with over a dozen players sin binned or sent off, and even more put on report.

We discuss why the NRL's administrators keep changing the rules, how they have no accountability, and how pigheaded their attitudes have been when they have been asked by the media about the backlash from players, coaches and supporters.
