What happens when we listen to others through filters?
When we listen to others through filters, we distort, delete and generalize the communication.
We end up with a version that is different than the intended original communication.
Most communication then, can be said to be miscommunication.
It's taken our current communication abilities 13.8 billion years to be what it is today.
It will just get better with time.
For the optimistic, that is.
(If you're a pessimist, sorry, it will only get worse.)
Have you ever wondered how to listen to people, say your partner, colleague, or children, so their communication lands and is understood by you the way it was meant?
You may say, "Fernando, are you saying that listening is something I do actively and not passively?"
That is exactly what I am saying.
It can be amazingly challenging.
And it can also be a fun game if you are someone who likes gamifying life.
The level of how active you are when listening will dictate how successful the other person's true intention of their communication is understood by you.
It is said that actively listening burns more calories than running half a marathon, and twice as many calories as an ice bath a la Himhof.
And because it takes work, only the dedicated will do it.
Practice active listening in your next communication exchange, and see what happens.
It can become a fun game, of getting to know people in our lives in ways we did not understand before and deepening our relationships.
Enjoy the practice of active listening,

Lack of listening, kills.
It kills health, relationships, and businesses.
Without listening there’s no acknowledgment, and without acknowledgment, things don’t exist in our awareness, even if the person, opportunity, or possibility is right in front of our smiley face.
There are a few levels of listening, such as:
Listening to your body, listening to people through a filter, listening without a filter, etc.
Experiment listening to your body right now.
If your body could talk, and it can in its unique ways, what would your body tell you right now?
If you’re not used to asking this question, it may take a few times for your unconscious mind to feel worthy to communicate with your conscious mind, due to years of nonlistening or negligence. It happens. It happens to all of us.
And the past does not equal the future.
The trust can be reestablished.
Listening, acknowledging, and honoring your body creates a playing field for the vast positive potential to be realized in your life.
