In this episode of Fiction Writer we explore the misconception that contemporary and historical fiction stories do not engage in world building. The world of any story is an abstracted form of reality and the process of abstraction is never free of omissions, distortions, or out-right falsehoods. Fiction writers can never be perfect, but by world building our contemporary or historical fictions while acknowledging the damage we can cause, leads to more inclusive worlds and ultimately stronger stories.
