Romans 9:17-20- This morning we consider one of the most significant doctrines and attributes of God—His Sovereignty. Put simply, the sovereignty of God refers specifically to God’s governing activity. Before we plunge ahead into the final components of Job’s story, we must grapple with God’s sovereignty.

Job 11- In chapter 11, Job’s friend, Zophar, speaks. Essentially, what Zophar says sounds like an echo chamber from what Eliphaz and Bildad have already stated. Zophar likewise indicts Job.

Job 8-10- In chapters 9 and 10, it would appear that Job wants to take God to court? Can you imagine? Job wanted his day in court. And, he wanted his day in court with God. What do we make of this?

Job 6:9; 7:17-21-Lynn Mosher has written: “Some things only achieve their greatest design through crushing blows.” Most of us are not shaking our fists at God and craving to be crushed by Him. Right? What brings a man to a place that he would appeal to God to take Him out, to take his life, to crush him?

John 9:2-3; Job 4-5-In John’s Gospel, chapter nine, Jesus is walking along, and in the providence of Almighty God, He happens upon a man blind from birth. The disciples’ logic and Job’s friends’ logic are similar. Today, we explore the logic of Job’s friends, that is, that Job must have done something wrong because he is the most dreadfully afflicted person in the land.

Job 3:1-26-As Job 3 unfolds, Job opens his mouth and curses the day of his birth. Have you ever cursed the day of your birth? Have you ever wanted your birthday obliterated from the calendar?

1 Ptr. 3:17; 4:12-19-Christians and non-Christians alike come honestly to the question and ask: "Why is there pain and suffering in the world?" How do we make sense of pain and suffering in this world? Does the presence of suffering necessarily mean the absence of God?

Job 2:11-13- In the text for this morning, three of Job’s friends arrive on the scene. At first, these three friends do what great friends do. What can we learn from them at this point?

Job 2:1-10-When we last left Job, he had lost all of his material possessions. He lost his children. His life was spared. His wife’s life was spared. Nevertheless, Job is about to experience another unimaginable day.

Job 1:13-22- Have you ever had a bad day? More than likely, yes. Yet, all your worst days combined, pale in comparison to Job's one unimaginable day. Job is about to experience a devastating day, one that would rightly bring any man to his knees.
