In this episode, you will hear the journey that Elisa went through with her son. As a black woman of mixed race who is married to a Caucasian man with red hair, her son had a very unique look. Her son dealt with not being “black enough” and yet not quite “white enough” because of his light completion. As his hair grew even more and he got older, he began to recognize how “different” he looked. In his family and culture, he was being celebrated, but in school, he started being bullied.

We talk about how he stopped being radiant, and became depressed, and started acting out to try to fit in and cope. The school system didn’t help or support Elisa, so she had to take him out and home school. By the age 11 he had anxiety, PTSD, and felt suicidal. So her journey began to restore the mental health of her precious son. She used all the tools she learned in her wellness/coaching training and got him amazing support.

Today, his compassion has returned, he’s more playful, and he’s working on recovering from what he experienced. This is a conversation of race, skin color and pride in one’s heritage as a multi-ethnic person.

Elisa Sterling-Cowan is a mother, wife, woman of faith, an adventurer and clue finder, and a spiritual being in the grit of her human journey and adventure.

Elisa is a writer, artist, health and wellness advocate and coach, and resonator of love currently in Alberta, Canada. Over the last 20+ years in particular, she has journeyed a path she never expected... multiple autoimmune diagnoses, MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity), NDEs (Near Death Experiences), AND on a healing and wholeness journey that she desires to share the fruits of with others going down similar paths or looking for ways to live life with more fullness.

Imagine the journey of having a highly scientific, medical career, needing to prove yourself by your education and accomplishments, then having life basically throw you on your back for a year to get your attention. That's what happened to Jennifer Bloome. Starting work in the medical field, she realized that while she loved the part of science that could be proven, she knew it was not serving her. So one day she said what turned out to be a prayer to the universe. She asked to be shown what's next.

In this episode, Therese shares the difference between reinvention and evolution. Reinvention is the conscious, strategic growth that involves a path and a plan. But for many of us…we are in the “evolution” process. This is very different as it’s more on a soul level where change may be forced on you. Or it may feel like things are changing and it feels like it’s taking you along for the ride!

As Therese says, Reinvention is of the mind, but evolution is of the spirit/soul. Truth is, Therese teaches that you need to blend BOTH of the pieces, but many mentors out there seem to neglect the evolution piece of it. You’ve heard it said that the thing that got you to a certain level will not take you to the next level. And so, on the path of letting yourself evolve, things will be taken away. What used to be light for you, may now feel heavy. You may feel discontent about your previous work, or notice more delight in what’s coming up.

In the episode, Therese shares a personal story of being “forced” to let go of one of her favorite programs as she evolved into a new level of work. Adriana Monique Alvarez started her story by sharing that at 38 weeks of pregnancy, she delivered her daughter Nina as a stillborn. She had no idea there was anything wrong and ended up delivering the baby by herself, alone in her bathroom. After losing the baby, she knew that this was a portal to something new. As she says, it cracked her open and from here, amazing new things were birthed in her life and business.

In this show, we talk about the grief journey and how to navigate it. Adriana knew that as a parent to two young boys and thousands of clients, she could not allow herself to get swallowed up in grief. What she learned through this is that both can be in the space…grief, and then simultaneously feeling joy or delight.

The cool part of this journey is Adriana’s connection with Nina. She had a powerful connection before she was born, but even after her death, Nina still comes through. Colin Scotland started learning about marketing as a boy in Liverpool England helping his father set up the stand they sold goods from on the street. He became fascinated with the marketing aspects of it, so went on to get a master's in marketing, and was also teaching it at a college. Along the way, he started an e-commerce business that generated millions of dollars. It was fun and brought him what he thought was a great life, until the time it failed and he lost everything. In this episode, Therese talks about the concept of your identity as the definition of who you choose to be. The thing is though, very often, our identity is “given” to us or forged because of our experiences. Therese says that at a certain age, some of the pieces of our identity may start to flame out or not serve us any longer. But often we are unconscious to whom we have grown into, or what we really desire to be in the world. You’ll hear Therese talk about what she has named “Identity Dysmorphic Disorder” and how to be free of it.

As Therese says, “I want your identity to be of your creation!" The secret is to do the deep dive work to understand what you are hanging on to, and where you want to grow.

You can ask yourself… What is my identity? Where did it come from? Does it still work for you anymore?

This journey is a really important one. It takes commitment to be willing to look deeply inward to create a new foundation for who you will be, but it's so worth it. This episode will give you steps to get to that “next level” of your identity.
