  • Grace and Grit with Karen Nowicki

This is a story you don’t usually hear. Imagine your husband…the love of your life attempting suicide and surviving. The emotions and fallout from this one event are life-changing and devastating, to say the least.

That’s what happened to my guest Karen Nowicki.

Karen talks about how she was shocked that this occurred, as was everyone who knew her hubby. The fall-out for her family was horrific, but what shifted for Karen was that she started journaling to break free of the shame and share the journey that her family was on. She got huge backlash from some family members for sharing this, and even fought it in herself as this was a big “ask” from God! This decision cost her some relationships, yet it was something she knew she had to do it.

She shares the struggles she’s gone through and is still going through. Karen has used this as a personal growth + transformational journey.

And one of the main themes of this episode is about receiving. As a result of this event, Karen had to rely on many, many people to help pick up the pieces. As you will hear in her story, the receiving has been excruciating in some ways because there was such an outpouring of love that she had difficulty taking in.

As I say in the show, you may not have survived something like this, but we ALL have had some tragedy or place in our lives where we can expand our receiving muscle!

Karen is sharing this story because mental health and particularly mental illness and suicide/attempts need to be normalized as it’s so stigmatized right now. Karen is a warrior who has been through the unimaginable and has been an advocate for truth and transparency. In fact, as a result of her sharing the journey she was on, six people have reached out to her and shared that they or someone they loved decided to NOT take their lives.

This is a very special, and very “real” episode from an amazingly courageous woman.

Karen Nowicki is a successful author, speaker and the creator of Deep Impact Leadership- and SoulMarks Coaching-. She is a two-time recipient of the prestigious national Choice Award® for her book and personal development retreat. Karen was crowned the first-ever “Mompreneur of the Year” Award in 2010 for the southwestern states. She was recognized for her leadership, business acumen and work-life balance.

Karen has been an expert guest on regional TV and radio shows, including Fox Phoenix Morning Show, Sonoran Living, Good Morning Arizona, The Chat Room, and Mid-Day Arizona. She has been a regular contributor to many print and online magazines - publishing articles and blogs for business and education.

In addition to working with private coaching clients, Karen is also the Owner & President of Phoenix Business RadioX. • Permission to Follow Your Dreams with MiMi Dabo

In this episode, we start by chatting about what not charging your worth looks like and why it happens.

Born in Sierra Leone, Mimi knew at age 7 what she was meant to do. She had a vision at that young age where she was working with and inspiring women which in her mind meant being an entrepreneur. But her journey was quite unique in that her parents were both professors. As she says, “in my culture, you don’t grow up “selling things.” You get a professional career and be an employee. I decided I wasn’t going to rock the boat, so I swallowed my voice.”

Mimi did not do what she knew she was called to do because she was scared. Coming from a family that valued education, she elected to go to school. Before she jumped into her own business, she got her MBA, CPA, and become an attorney, so she didn’t really land in her own dream until her 40’s.

Truth is, Mimi needed permission to say yes to her dream. She was fearful of what would happen when she finally stepped made the move, so she stayed in jobs that didn’t serve her soul.

Mimi’s advice: “Be great now!” Don’t wait because someone needs you. Your gifts are not your own. When you keep it inside and hold yourself back, that’s selfish.”

This is a delightful episode! We even ended up breaking into a song at the end.

Described as an “African girl with a dream,” MiMi Dabo is the CEO of MiMi Dabo Coaching. She is also CEO of her fashion brand, Miatta MiMi, and is the designer and maker for her fashion lines Boutique Mix and Baby Okra Boutique. MiMi is the founder of the Miatta-MiMi ‘Do Good While You Shop Campaign,’ which benefits various women and children’s charities.

A designer + stylist, artist, accountant and entrepreneur, MiMi is also a passionate advocate for women creating their best lives. Committed to empowering 1,000,000 women to easily provide food, shelter, clothing and medical +emotional support for their families, she left a 15-year litigation career to become a Coach.

She endeavored to grow her business and after 6 years, she realized she had huge debt, hadn’t paid herself in 6 years, and was falling apart. She had a situation where everything looked good on the outside, but she was miserable. The fact that she was a financial person made it much worse in that she had mis-managed her business, so she decided to dive in and learn more about money so she could help her clients beyond just the ‘number crunching.’

In this episode, we talk about how money is triggering for many, loaded with shame, and will bring up all kinds of “stuff” for people.

One fun question we talked about…”How do you think about money?” (It’s more than you think it is!!)

  • What To Do When Things Don't Work Out

Very often the concept is taught that what needs to happen for deep change to occur is that you must make a decision first. As in, you are required to no longer be willing to live how you have been living. No longer willing to tolerate less than good enough for yourself.

Creation ALWAYS starts with a decision.

One of the regular listeners of the podcast wrote and said, "But what do you do along the way? How do you get from here to there? What's the process? How do you start to navigate after things may have fallen apart if you want to change course?"

In this episode, Therese answers that question.

You'll hear how to honor your journey, how to be with emotions, and work with your body/energy so you can have clarity and focus for what's next.

  • These Things Must Be Activated for You to Succeed

If you want to be fiercely brilliant, there's no better way for it to show up than in your business! And, business is also the place where you will be brought to your knees and shown where your limits are.

But what if you are in a business that is more “intangible” or esoteric in nature? What if the work you do doesn’t fall neatly in a box? How do you describe it, market it, and sell it? Those are the kinds of businesses that are both a beautiful invitation for you to show up more fully and can kick your ass as well! The “work” as Therese talks about is often who you become, and not necessarily always about what you are doing.

In this episode, you’ll hear the places that you will need to “Activate” in order to fully get your great work out in the world, attract the right clients, and make the money you desire.
