Since his departure on Episode #181 to attend USAF Basic Training, Film Buds creator/former lead host Henry Faherty is BACK for good as we say a heartfelt goodbye to Paul & Lauren as they move on to pursue other ventures -- but, we also welcome Henry's wonderful wife, Elle DeWeese, into the hosting chair! Hey y'all,

The strange, gore fest franchise that is Evil Dead began with a small independent film that grew into a franchise phenomena from a cult following. Now the fifth film in the franchise is out.

For this week's episode, and in their final episode as hosts, Lauren & Paul review Evil Dead Rise. They start with their own pasts with the franchise before delving deeper into the film. They talk about what makes an Evil Dead movie, what this one does with the franchise fodder, and how well it creeped us out.

Lastly, Paul and Lauren are leaving as permanent hosts of the Film Buds as Henry returns. It has been a great time with them on the show, and they can still be found around on Letterboxd and Instagram. And be on the look out for their new venture, coming soon.

And don't forget to check out our earlier episode from this month.

Thanks y'all,

The Buds - Lauren & Paul

Hello everyone,

Sorry we've been away. Sometimes life happens and March has been a busy time for us. To try and make up for the lost time, we decided to bring y'all a triple-header.

For the first of three reviews, we discuss the documentary Ithaca. The documentary is about Julian Assange and the personal toll that his new legal troubles have brought. Produced by the family, it tells a unique story of a controversial man.

After, we do two power reviews. Each of us had 5 minutes to talk about the films in question with some brief thoughts after. First we review the newest installment in the Rocky/Creed franchise Creed III. Then we close with a review of the the action Goliath John Wick: Chapter 4.

As always be sure to check out our last episode and make sure to join us again next week.

Thanks y'all,

The Buds

Hey y’all,

For those of y’all not in the know, the recent merger of Warner and Discovery led to not only a further consolidation of a relatively cramped market, but also the loss of completed film and television. Following the merger, the company, under the direction of David Zaslav, multiple projects in various stages of post-production were canceled and used for tax write off purposes, the most prominent of which was Batgirl.

However, one of those films leaked.

Yes folks, last weekend a completed animated Scooby Doo film, Scooby Doo and Krypto Too, leaked online. So naturally we had to talk about and review this never to be released film. Was it bad enough to warrant cancellation? Was it secretly a tie-in to the now dead Snyder-verse (It does not)? What’s our favorite Scooby Doo crossover? We’ll answer all these questions and more in our review.

Hey y’all,

Creed III is currently making waves, as well it should. The emotional culmination of our new lead character, following a legacy of almost 10 films. It is a big deal.

But I’ve never seen Creed, and Lauren has never seen Rocky. So this week, we’re doing both.

To kick things off in March we’re starting with a review of the classic Boxing Drama and its legacy sequel, we well as a chat about sports on film. We hope you enjoy this week’s episode, be sure to listen to our original Creed review, and don’t forget to check out last week’s episode.

Thanks y’all,

Happy Black History Month, y’all,

This week we bring our cinematic celebration to a close, but we do it with MUSIC!

Music is a core, human experience, but that doesn’t mean that music history is immune to the reality of human history. While many were enjoying rock’n’roll, few were honoring or even aware of its relation to the Black community as White artists and disc jockeys profited off the sound.

For our review this week, we watched the recorded Broadway show, Memphis. Boasting a predominantly Black cast, and about the history of rock’n’roll on radio, we’ll discuss how well the show honors the history. Furthermore, we’ll discuss the different ways stage can be used to tell a story, how well this recording works, and more.

Thank you for joining us this week, and be sure to check out last week’s episode.

Enjoy y’all,

The Buds
