Film Grain mourns the passing of one of our largest supporters, Joe Butoryak. His presence will be missed by each of us as well as the Erie community he was a part of. 

Join Erika, John and Mike as they discuss this week's film, "The Edge of Democracy," a documentary by Petra Costa that walks viewers through the troubled history of Brazil's "democratic" government. Seriously, what is going on here? Film fan and scholar Spencer Myers joins John, Erika, Jesse, and Mike to discuss his recommendation, the Oscar-nominated A Serious Man, streaming on Netflix. You might feel a camaraderie with protagonist Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlberg) as lots of horrible stuff is happening to him and he isn’t doing much about it. Sound familiar lately? Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a slow-burn tale of an artist and her dynamic muse with, arguably, the best payoff ending this group has seen in years. Starring Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel and streaming on Hulu. The Spy, executive produced by and starring Sasha Baron Cohen, is a mini-series on Netflix depicting the (mostly) true story of Israel’s most notorious spy, Eli Cohen. We say YES to both.
