This week, John, Erika, Jesse, and Stewart find body positivity with Netflix’s Dumplin’ (Danielle Macdonald), a full-figured highschooler who, with the help of Dolly Parton and some drag queens, ends up competing in her mother’s (played by Jennifer Aniston) beauty pageant. Even Stew found it heartwarming. The team went to film school watching the first three episodes of The Story of Film: An Odyssey, streaming on Hulu. The Irish filmmaker/narrator brings poeticism to content potentially dry to non-nerds like us.

In our first ever COVID-19 podcast, John, Erika, Jesse, and Stewart are working remotely and working out the audio kinks. Each week - indefinitely - we will recommend one movie and one series streaming on an ubiquitous service like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Shoutout to editor extraordinaire Britton Rozelle for making us coherent and worth listening to.

Candyman, Candyman, Candyman. BOO! This week, we throw back to Candyman, starring Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen. Watchable on a Netflix-and-chill night, it lays the groundwork for Jordan Peele’s remake allegedly coming this year. But with the state of the film industry... we don’t know. Do you? Devs. DEVS. If you watch one series in all of 2020, make it "Devs." Starring Sonoya Mizuno, Nick Offerman, and Alison Pill, it’s a near-perfect sci-fi mini-series. Trust us.

Following recent articles in the New York Times regarding the conduct of Erie Art Museum director, Joshua Helmer, and his subsequent dismissal, we thought we would invite some of Erie’s arts leadership and business experts to discuss Code of Conduct.

First, we spoke with Debra Thompson, President of Strategy Solutions, who joined us to discuss the role board of directors play in creating and enforcing the code of conduct in a nonprofit, and best practices for addressing businesses and organizations.  And in our second roundtable, Kate Neubert-Lechner, president of the Erie Playhouse, Jennifer Dennehy, general manager of Dafmark Dance Theatre and owner of Kinetic Creativity, talked about next steps for the Erie art community.
