    QUOTES:

“If you feel safe in the area that you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth, and when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.” David Bowie

“There will be no one like us when we are gone, but then there is no one like anyone else, ever. When people die, they cannot be replaced. They leave holes that cannot be filled, for it is the fate - the genetic and neural fate - of every human being to be a unique individual, to find his own path, to live his own life, to die his own death.” Oliver Sacks

“I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure - which is: Try to please everybody.” Herbert Bayard Swope

  • 10 PRODUCTIVITY SUPERPOWERS - Episode 100
Today is the last of the long episodes and in it, I am going to look back over the previous 100 shows and pick out 10 productivity techniques that will supercharge your life if you choose to take them on board. Having knowledge of these techniques is only half the battle you see, they will only ever make a difference in your life if you put them into action.

As Stan Lee would say with great power comes great responsibility but I’m going to grant you these superpowers to do with as you may; all I ask is that you use them to strive forward in your life and career towards the success that awaits you.

    QUOTES

“We all wish we had superpowers. We all wish we could do more than we can do."
    Stan Lee

"Gaining superpowers doesn't mean you know how to use them." Richelle Mead

"If you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it." Mel Robbins

“Mental energy is the world’s hottest commodity. People are going to try to steal it, drain it, and suck it up every second you’re awake. Yet very few of us protect it. Few of us know how.” Isaiah Hankel

“Mental energy is OUR MOST VALUABLE ASSET. Without it, you won’t have the enthusiasm, motivation, drive, and physical energy to live a full rich life. - The problem is this asset DEPRECIATES RAPIDLY every day.” Isaiah Hankel

“People carefully protect the money in their bank account and the time in their calendar, but they do little to protect their attention.” And “Attention”, he says “is the gateway to your mental energy. WHERE YOUR ATTENTION GOES, YOUR MENTAL ENERGY FLOWS.” Isaiah Hankel

“It is fundamentally the confusion between effectiveness and efficiency that stands between DOING THE RIGHT THINGS and DOING THINGS RIGHT. There is surely nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency that which should not be done at all.” Peter Drucker

"We must stop this incessant victimhood mentality.
Somebody else will not fix things.
Somebody else will not make me healthy.
Somebody else will not make me happy.
    These things are my responsibility.
    Not the neighbour’s,
    not the government’s,
not the church or the civic club."
    Joel Salatin

"You are 42 percent more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down." Dr Gail Matthews, at the Dominican University in California

“Saying no is very near the top of the productivity techniques that I use most often – Learn to say ‘no’ to the good so you can say ‘yes’ to the best” John C. Maxwell

“Learn to set boundaries. In short, learn to say no. Don't guilt and shame yourself. Say no to people and things you don't want. Just say no. It is your right, it is your time, it is your energy.” Akiroq Brost

“Your life today is a result of your thinking yesterday. Your life tomorrow will be determined by what you think today.” John C. Maxwell

    SPONSOR

This podcast has only been made possible by the support of the various sponsors that have come my way over the past several years and today's show is no different. I’m genuinely excited in fact to tell you a little about today's sponsor as they are fellow action choreographers and stunt professionals. Since 2015 Breakfall Studios has offered individual and group training opportunities to the New York City stunt performers and actors. They offer regularly scheduled fighting, falling, tactical and stunt/action related workshops. If you are a production in need of fight coordination, a space to rehearse, shoot previz or host an audition, their Midtown studio is available for rent. Have an actor in your production who needs fight training? They've got you covered. Centrally located in Midtown, Manhattan, they will make finding time and space a bit easier. Their facility is fully equipped with a variety of pads, mats, prop weapons, a basic rig system, scaffold, and more.

  • TO DO LISTS - Episode 99
In this episode, I discuss 19 ways to improve how you handle to-do lists. How much time do you spend on planning your days? 5 minutes? 10? How many of you spend no time at all on planning and just go with the flow and if you do that – how’s it working out for you? Well as you are listening to this show I’d guess you do at least try, now and again, to make SOME plans but creating a task list should not be some secondary thing that you try to do as quickly as possible. In fact, when you pay more attention to your next day’s to-do list, the more likely the list is going to be realistic.

    QUOTES

"When you make a to-do list, you should also make a to-not-do list. Warren Buffet was asked about the secret to success, and he said that it was saying no to almost everything. Some of those little tasks won't matter as long as you get the big tasks done." Brian Tracy

"If someone gives me a to-do list, I say 'thank you, this is nice.' One needs things to throw in the wastebasket." Karl Lagerfeld

  • OPENING AND CLOSING DOORS - Episode 98
Generally, when I talk about opening and closing doors I am talking in terms of taking on too many things. As discussed in the last show you need to ruthlessly prioritize what you are getting yourself into and the best way to do that is to always be prepared to turn down what at first may appear to be an opportunity.

  • FOCUS ON THREE THINGS - Episode 97
In this episode I’m backing a simple productivity concept - that focusing on no more than 3 things over a given period of time, not at the same time, but over a given period, could change everything for you. It may be more completely stated as "Focus on three things, ignore the rest."

“We talk about it as ruthless prioritization and by that what we mean is - only do the very best of the ideas. Lots of times you have very good ideas but they're not as good as the most important thing you could be doing and you have to make the hard choices.” Sheryl Sandberg
