“"Luis Fernando Barrera “Rui” is an animator and filmmaker living and working in Morelia, Mexico. He studied Art and Design at Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores, ENES, UNAM, Morelia, Michoacán.

His animated shortfilms have taken part in the official selection of various film festivals, such as Student World Impact Film Festival, Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ, Festival Internacional de Animación CARIBETOONS, Festival de Cortometraje Universitario Premios CEC 2023 and Re-Animación Fest, in which in this last one, he won in the Best Cinematography category. He has presented an academic conference in Primer Encuentro de Jóvenes Investigadorxs de las Humanidades, Artes y Ciencias Sociales, and he has participated in group exhibitions such as AD: Exposición Colectiva, MAD Muestra de arte y diseño in 2022; MUAD 23: Muestra de Arte y Diseño and Exposición Colectiva de Egreso Arrecife in 2023.

In 2022 he took the course Producir para Distribuir: era análoga VS. era digital. Nuevo Paradigma, given by Claudia Rivera Aubert and the workshop Historia de la letra: de la caligrafía a la tipografía given by Gabriel Martinez Meave.

His filmography consists of the animated shortfilms Karen’s Heavenly Cooking Time (2021), Happy Mother’s Day Daddy, The Bridge, Dr. Smith (2022) and My-Child (2023). He’s currently working on a series called My-Self in which he addresses the relationship between identity and mental health through self-knowledge."”
