In this episode our teenage angst goggles have been removed, as well as our romanticism of mental illness, so this rewatch brought to light a lot of what we missed back then and the infamous “Not with You” line makes perfect sense to us now!

Join Steph and Jess for the final stop on their European Vacation with 1998’s Run Lola Run, or in its native German, Lola Rennt. Guten Tag! Steph looks back at this one fondly having owned the dubbed Blockbuster VHS, Jess got mad superhero vibes from the heroine, and they both agree that the numerous running shots do not get quite as tedious as you think they would.

Join Steph and Jess as they’re midway through their European Vacation with the 2021 French film, The Deep House. Jess was underwhelmed by this underwater flick, Steph shares how her version would have ended, and they commiserate together about artists who ruin their art by their own crap actions.

In honor of our international listeners come join Steph and Jess for their European Vacation into cinema! This three episode series begins with a stop in Belgium with 1992’s Man Bites Dog ( C'est Arrivé Près de Chez Vous), a film when we initially read would be as a satire mockumentary about following a serial killer we thought would be so “har-har funny” ended up being more than we bargained for! We discuss the absurdity and extreme violence this student film took to make its rather valid point regarding the media and audiences bloodlust. CW: Mentions of violence and SA.

March of Musicals concludes with 2001’s Moulin Rouge! Join Steph and Jess as they take you back to their own turn of the century musical experiences with their appreciation of early aughts nu metal and rap, learn about TB exposure and spreading prevention (spoiler; you ain’t supposed to be singing!), and finally announce the films for next month’s theme Filmgazers International: European Vacation.

Steph admits she’s not a Beatles superfan but does own all their records, Jess proposes making another artist based musical centered on Tom Petty songs, and they reminisce about their thoughts on love and romance during the year 2007.
