Tonight, we’re looking at movies you probably assumed sprang fully formed from the mind of a screenwriter, only to discover they were hiding in a book, comic, memoir, or suspiciously short piece of fiction all along. This is not Harry Potter, where the source material arrives carrying its own theme park and gift shop. We’re talking A History of Violence, Die Hard, Mean Girls, and other films that quietly snuck onto the screen wearing fake mustaches. Some of these adaptations are so different from their originals that calling them “based on” feels legally cautious. So pour a drink, judge a book by its movie poster, and prepare to say, “Wait… that was adapted from what?” 🎬📚🍻
