Today Martha is going to share her personal story in order to help people realize that addicts aren’t aliens or terrible people to shy away from. Addicts are brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. There is more to their story than just the drugs and the booze. The real problems that cause people to turn to drugs and drink start long before the addiction begins. Stay tuned to hear Martha’s story and hopefully gain some perspective on just what addiction entails.

In this episode, we talk about…

  • EP02: Struggles in Recovery

Today Martha talks about some of the struggles that occur when going through recovery as a former addict. Where you are in your recovery process helps to play a part in what you are struggling with at that current juncture. The shame of your addiction can subconsciously affect your day to day and cause many feelings of self-doubt. Stay tuned for assurance that you are not alone in these struggles!

In this episode, we talk about…

    • The fear of being alone in early sobriety
    • Different outlets to go to when you begin sobriety to prevent boredom

  • EP01 Recovery: What does it Mean?

Today Martha is going to talk about what recovery really means. The dictionary defines recovery as returning to a “normal” state, but there is so much more to it than that. Every person is so beautifully different, so how does one become normal? That same principle means that for every individual person, recovery means something different. There is no mold to fit when you are trying to pull yourself out of that dark place of addiction and create a better life for yourself. Do what is best for yourself!

In this episode, we talk about…

    • What it means to be “normal”
    • Embracing who you are to avoid the mold
    • Importance of having hope that you can create a better life for yourself
    • Involving others in your recovery process
    • Looking challenges in the eye to put yourself farther away from relapse
    • Negative effects of pushing your demons down inside
    • Putting one foot in front of the other to continue growing
    • Remembering how brave you are to ask for help
