Welcome to Episode 006 of the Find Me in Seattle Podcast! This week's episode kicks off with two pieces of news:
1) After 40 years of service in Pike Place Market, the longstanding Pike Place Newsstand will be closing down on December 31st, 2019. The famous stop in the market was widely known for carrying newspapers from cities, big and small, all around the country, but as years have gone by, their number one selling product has become bubble gum to be taken into the gum wall around the corner.
2) The Seattle Public library announced that starting in 2020, they will no longer be charging daily late fees on books that are overdue. I have some mixed feelings about the topic knowing that the late fee was the only thing preventing people from stealing books. However, while recording the episode, I did notice that they will charge for the full price of the book if it is not returned within 30 days of the due date.
The MEAL OF THE WEEK comes from Issaquah, Washington at a little pub called The Black Duck! The Black Duck has a strong focus on beer but also offers a delicious duck-focused food menu. Our meal included the Duck Poutine, Duck Drummies, The Black Duck Pizza Pie, and The Burger.
Our FEATURED BUSINESS OF THE WEEK is also located on the Eastside! Hui Lau Shan is a mango-focused dessert bar. In Hong Kong, you can find more of their locations than Starbucks or McDonalds. Each dish is prepared daily with fresh mango and we thought the dessert were not only delicious, but I didn't feel as sugary like I would after most dessert.
