On this episode of Find Your Sparkle with Jen, I got to catch up with two-thirds of Anam Cara Stories - Andrew Chalmers, Founder & Nikita Morris. We got to hear how this unlikely friendship began then blossomed into a business partnership.

Anam Cara Stories is a place to go in a complicated world that gives hopeful, creative people a simple chance to unite, and shine. A creative endeavour that will be the spark to a flame to create and produce inspiring stories, set in the Maritimes that can reach the world.

Andrew Chalmers, an Audio Verse Nominated writer, studied screenplay writing at George Brown College, Toronto and is a member of the Los Angeles PRO-SERIES Script writing Alumni.

Andrew co-directed, wrote, and developed a sitcom pilot for the CBC as well as working to write and develop a comedy series for Netflix. Andrew is also the co – founder of AM Audio Media, a production company that produces online full cast audio dramas. Doctor Who ‘Dark Journey’ is a Canadian take on the legendary British sci fi television show which ran for 2 Series, being nominated for various awards, and won an Audio Verse Award for Roy Miranda for Best Actor.

Nova Scotia is a place, some say magical, where ambitious, spirited, people live.

Drawing from his experiences having a lifelong, challenging sleep disorder, his real-life experiences with the paranormal, as well as his studying with Canadian Shamanic circles, Andrew wrote ‘Grace’ as a micro budget horror / love story.

Nikita Morris, a native of Truro, and overall proud Nova Scotian, has a lifelong fascination with movies and how they can inspire an audience.

“I Iove the idea of creating a world that people can get lost in and forget about their own worries in life. Even for just a moment”.

Nikita graduated from the Toronto Film School in 2018 with a new ambition to create unique and hopeful movies that inspire. Embracing this vision resulted in Nikita directing, writing, and producing her short film ‘That Feeling’ which follows her ambitious journey from Truro to Toronto. This film, described by some as a visual poem was the recipient of the 2019 Emerging Lens Pitch to Script Scholarship.

A trip to Chiapas, Mexico prompted Marsha’s travelling companion to make a life changing statement to her. “Our trip was like a movie, one of us has to write a book or a screenplay and I nominate you.”

After many years writing and editing professional newsletters, she attended the Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles leading to her typing FADE IN: for the very first time. Her ‘Mayan Heart of Mexico’ was an official selection of the 2015 Oaxaca Film Fest. Her dedication to refining and growing her craft has helped build her reputation, provided her with potential scripts, provided opportunities including coaching and mentorship to groups of emerging screenwriters

As a fellow graduate and alum of Andrew’s from ScreenwritingU’s PROSERIES Marsha’s love of writing about strong resourceful female protagonists drew her to Andrew’s tantalizing ghost character, Grace.

“Grace is not a typical ghost story. This is an intimate relationship between a human and a ghost who help each other learn and survive”.

Marsha is a talented screenplay consultant, working to enhance a stories dramatic impact in a way that elevates a script’s appeal. On a motivational level Marsha is a vital, empathic mentor often giving writers the emotional encouragement, ‘that little push’ that gets them back on track again.

On this episode of Find Your Sparkle with Jen, my friend Dwight Parker (aka Capt Corkum with The Pirates of Halifax) and Cyndi Bussey, high school vocational teacher & author, talk about their chance meeting on Oak Island that sparked a friendship and a collaboration that has ,and continues to, benefit Children's Hospitals in North America, including the IWK Children's Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada.  

In 2018, after a tour of Oak Island with her friend Ray Johnson, Cyndi & him decided to write a children's book about her dog Annie having an adventure on Oak Island.  This inaugural first book Annie Goes to Oak Island raised approximately $3000 CAD for the IWK Children's Hospital.  This complimented Cyndi's love of dogs and sparked an interest for future books.

In 2020, Cyndi collaborated with Dwight (Captain Corkum) on Annie and the Pirates of Halifax which was released in November of 2021.  This was followed by several successful book signings at Coles and Chapters where the book is sold.

In this episode of Find Your Sparkle with Jen, Debbie gets real & vulnerable talks about dealing with depression.  This powerful episode is sure to influence, inspire and impact and motivate you to reflect and ponder your own mental health and those in your life that may be suffering from depression or others mental health. 

We all know people with depression - maybe it's even you. Debbie shares some of her story and reads a part of a book she has written for companions about how depression feels that is incredibly powerful.  Debbie is determined to normalize talking about mental health and remove the stigma.  Everyone has been impacted in some way at some time  by mental health whether it's personally or someone close. 

We need to get better at talking, asking for help, getting rid of judgement and being kinder to ourselves and those around us.  We all have "stuff" and ups and downs regardless of status, race, culture, religion and any other demographic.

On this episode of Find Your Sparkle with Jen my good friend, Debbie Morrow, Mental Health advocate breaks her silence and talks about her mental health & depression.  If you or anyone you know has or is experiencing depression you will want to listen to this interview! On this episode of Find Your Sparkle with Jen, I have a very important conversation with my guest, Kevin Purchase as he speaks out about his journey with mental health and some of his journey.

Kevin has dreamed of being a firefighter his entire life and has been a volunteer firefighter since 2011.  He has been off on leave since July 2021 and has been off from his full time position since October 2021.

During our conversation, Kevin shares some of his journey of first becoming aware that something wasn’t right and then accepting that he was not himself.  Initially there was resistance but when he opened up and realized the changes he was experiencing was not only hurting himself but was impacting those around him.

Kevin talks about his fiancé giving him a link to the program Project Trauma Support which initially he ignored.  He talks about how something drew him back to explore the program and once he did, he was on a plane to Ottawa, Ontario to head to Perth for an intense 6 day program that proved life-changing for him.

This was the catalyst to Kevin deciding to speak out about his struggles with mental health and how they have impacted him, his life and others around him.  He is on a personal healing journey and wants to inspire, influence and impact others to get help, remove the stigma and start talking more about their mental health openly without fear of judgement.

This is a HUGE step for him and I am extremely grateful to have this opportunity to share some of his story and hopefully reach others that can relate to some or all of Kevin’s story and get help and reach out without fear of consequences. I believe as a society, we can always improve communication and remove stigma and we all have the power to make a difference.

We know the ripple effect is huge and far more reaching than we may ever know!  You can help make a difference in sharing Kevin’s story. You never know who needs to hear what and trust me when I say, it can make a huge difference in someone(s) life!

In this episode of Find Your Sparkle with Jen her guest, John Farrell shares some of his fascinating journey to inspire, influence and impact you! 

Having left his home country of New Zealand over 30 years ago, John has experienced a life of extremes, from working with some of the richest people in the world to living the last 10 years in Myanmar, Burma a country not recognised as being 3rd world. The opening sentence in his future book reads: "As I sit down to begin writing in the middle of a coup, the book begins in the middle of a coup". What has he learnt?

He left home in New Zealand to go sailing and spent the next 20 years sailing on yachts racing in Europe, culminating in being the chef on an 18 crew 80foot sailing boat doing one of the more dangerous races in the world the Fastnet in the UK before shifting to safer powerboats, where he eventually gained his captaincy, met his wife and sailed Europe, the Americas, Pacific and Asia, with some of the richest people in the world.

After years of living a stressful high-octane life at sea, John came ashore in the UK to put down roots. John went into coaching and motivational speaking but realised his passion working with a renown genius in the field of Autism and trauma (PSTD and Abuse) who developed a groundbreaking therapy called Emergent Knowledge which is very much client centred. This work focused more on the unconscious information of the client and supports them to emerge their own resolution of problems, using metaphor therapy. John even gets to regularly co-facilitate coaching with horses and does sessions where the client doesn’t speak.

After 6 years of this work the sea called again and he and his wife spent a couple of years in Thailand, before entering Myanmar as it exited dictatorship to train locals in the hospitality industry. This was an amazing experience for a country where one day they’d dare not speak in public to accepting tourists. The country and its people blossomed, the changes and development were tangible, that is until John began writing his book. The Tatmadaw  (Army) decided they’d had enough democracy and clamped down. The millennials of Myanmar had different ideas and today, lovely young people that were trained in hospitality along with their parents are learning how to load AK47’s and perform medical operations in the jungle. The world has gone through huge changes in recent years and people are reassessing their lives.  John wants to help the World wake up and raise the its consciousness.

I love sharing people's stories to Inspire, Influence & Impact on Find Your Sparkle with Jen!

In this episode of Find Your Sparkle with Jen, my guest Janice Landry shares some of her story along with what has inspired, influenced and impacted her throughout her life.  Janice will be commemorating 35 years as a journalist this May 2022 and shares some of her early memories at ATV (now CTV) and the role of mentors.  Janice has always loved writing; however, she started writing books to honour her late parents and to help advocate for the mental health of first responders, frontline workers, members of the military, healthcare professionals and their families.

Janice has won three national awards and one Atlantic Canadian award for my books and advocacy.

Her 6th book, Eye of the Ocean, will publish in fall 2022.   Janice now freelances under her company, Groundhog Productions, aptly named after her birthday.

Janice is an incredibly talented lady with fabulous energy and a desire to make a difference!  Tune into Find Your Sparkle for your dose of inspiration! You never know what may resonate with you or be just the right thing you need to hear!
