Caregivers spend countless hours preparing meals, managing medications, helping with personal hygiene tasks, and many many other chores. But they often neglect themselves. They can go months without engaging in fun social activities with friends or participating in their favorite hobbies.
Caregivers can lose a sense of hope and joy when they do not properly balance caregiving with self-care. Summertime is a time that caregivers can reboot and reset their lives. They reclaim their life by engaging in self-care activities and it can start now.

Caregiving is hard work but many caregivers accept the role because they truly care. They're willing to sacrifice some of the things they want to do in order to provide for a need in someone else's life. But just having that willingness does not prepare you for the role you are undertaking. Having someone who can help you adopt the right strategies and technique is essential to lowering levels of anxiety and stress that can come with the new role.
With the help of Occupational Therapy, you can learn The Three Steps To Identifying and Solving Caregiving Challenges. As you learn the role of Occupational Therapy, you can know how to utilize the services to help you assist with those daily chores (occupations) of caregiving. You can learn more about the illness of your loved one, how it affects their ability to help do tasks and you can pinpoint those areas that are difficult for you to do and then set goals for what you want to see change.
The call-in segment of this episode also addresses calls received on the website call-in line from the Finding A Foothold community. Listen and hear advice given to a caller regarding knowing when it is safe for a son to leave his mother’s home to go back home (out of town) and a caregiver seeking help on how to help with dressing her father who has Parkinson’s.
