Episode 18 of Finding Felicity is titled Happy Birthday (Or, This Is Some Bullsh*t), because…Carol actually being Julie’s mom? Even after she lied to her face and told her she was not her mom? And we were all okay with that? That’s some straight-up bullsh*t.

Teresa is once again joined by producer extraordinaire David Schatanoff Jr. (You might remember him from Episode 9.) who, after celebrating “Thanksgiving” with us, returns for Julie’s birthday. David and Teresa talk about Julie’s mom being ridiculous (and slightly evil?), Ben’s budding gambling addiction, and the many ways in which our families – much like Megan’s parents – give a new insight into our lives when seen out of context.

PLEASE NOTE: For the first 4-5 mins of this episode, there was an unforeseen issue with our guest mic, so Dave’s voice sounds really low compared to Teresa’s. You’ll have to turn your volume up. But after that, his mic kicks in, and it’s absolutely normal for the rest of the podcast. Apologies for the technical glitch.

Teresa is joined once again by actor, blogger, and Felicity super-fan Jen Levin (whom you might remember from Episode Two) who is finally, at long last, able to unleash her Noel-hate in full. And with good reason!

Teresa and Jen talk about Noel’s desire to maintain all the control in his relationship with Felicity while expecting the space to “figures things out,” then has the nerve to be mad that Felicity’s upset despite being the cause of their woes in the first place. They also talk about Elena’s badassery, Ben’s realness, and Sean’s creepiness.

They also discuss the disappointing way in which Felicity humors Todd, and the fact that Felicity just seems to get away with everything while Julie gets punished for everything. Must be nice to be the title character on a TV show.

In this episode, we discuss the strengthening of Felicity and Elena’s friendship as Elena’s friendship with her childhood bestie, Tara, deteriorates, thanks to Tara’s dalliance with Blair. Noel and Sensa’s friendship seems to be a little stronger now that Noel has been the ultimate friend and pretended to be her boyfriend to appease her mostly-male family, and Julie is dealing with strengthening a different type of relationship altogether – the one between her and her birth mother (played by guest star Jane Kaczmarek!).

This week, Teresa’s guest is Paulina Lule Bugembe-Kuwahara – actor, writer, director…and quite possibly the world’s biggest Scott Speedman fan. Seriously, they tell a Scott Speedman story in this episode that nearly had them in tears, they were so flustered by reliving it!

Currently, his film Bodily starts production later this year, and the sketch comedy podcast Existential Yo-Yo is currently in production!

Listen as Teresa and David discuss the importance of one’s “chosen family,” the Mac vs. PC debate, and the glaringly obvious fact that Hannah is completely out of Noel’s league.
