For our last episode of the year, we're delighted to get back to basics.  The Finding Home Podcast is going Full Real Estate, now and going forward.

This is a live presentation that Scott gave for at the Cornell Club on November 30th, 2022, where he lays out a few lessons from 20 years in real estate.

The most important?  That the home search is much more than a search for home.

As a parent, do you ever sometimes wish somebody could magically appear in your ear and tell you all the answers?

You also might know Ben from his time as a creative director of the world famous Preservation Hall Jazz Band.  He’s also a film producer, entrepreneur, and even a member of the band where he plays tuba and bass. 

I’ve known Ben since childhood.  I grew up running around Preservation Hall with my best friend, Ben’s cousin. We talk all about New Orleans, and the role that he and Preservation Hall play in it.  We talk about the history and founding of Preservation Hall, what it’s like to be a touring musician, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and more.

Everyone talks about the power of mentors.  What counts as a mentor?  

A Football coach?  A teacher who believed in you?  Your first boss?  Your supportive father-in-law?  

Mentors come in all shapes and sizes.  Sometimes they come in the shape of a book.  That is, what if your best mentors aren't flesh and blood?  What if you could find the support and wisdom you needed from long-dead poets, philosophers, and statesmen?

We know that everyone needs mentors.  Almost as much as we need water.  In this week's episode of Finding Home, we talk about both- the importance of clean water and the power of mentors- with New York Times Best-selling Author Seth Siegel, who is also an activist, entrepreneur- and my long-time mentor.  His first book, Let There Be Water, tackled the history of water technology in Israel.  His second, Troubled Water, focused on water policy in America.

But this is but the latest chapter in Siegel's fascinating personal and business life.  With multiple businesses across multiple industries, we look to ask some relevant questions in the era of the Great Resignation:  How do you know when it's time to change careers?  How do you take that leap?  How important are mentors?   How do you have the confidence to try new things?
