Comedy can be survival...and it definitely was for Susan Korn growing up in public school. She recounts: "If I was at a party, and I could make them laugh, maybe they wouldn't kill me in the bathroom". 

Susan is a an American stand-up comedian,writer,actress and producer from New York. She hosted a nationally televised talk show on the Lifetime Network called Live from Queens.

Susan has performed on stage in the New York theater productions of Hot Keys with The Naked Angels and The Family Show with The Wordplay Ensemble. She appeared in Sidney Lumet’s film Family Business,starring Dustin Hoffman and Sean Connery. Susan was a member of The Groundlings Comedy Improv Group. She has also performed with the Upright Citizens Brigade and at stand-up clubs throughout NYC.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a professional storyteller?  To learn how narrators are able to evoke emotion, describe imagery, and immerse us in another world with such ease?

This week’s guest, Edoardo Ballerini is an expert (he won the oscar equivalent for narration) quite literally giving voice to stories - and bringing them to life.  

For his work as a narrator, Edoardo Ballerini is a two time winner of the Audio Publishers Association's Best Male Narrator award, and a two time winner of the Society of Voice Arts Award. He has recorded over 400 audiobooks, from classics by Tolstoy, Walt Whitman and Jack London, to modern best sellers by Amor Towles, James Patterson, and David Baldacci. 

You might have caught his profile in the New York Times, which called him, appropriately, "The Voice of God." On screen he is best known for his work in "The Sopranos" and the indie hit "Dinner Rush." He is currently filming the new Hulu series "Retreat," due out in 2023. 

We talk about stories at bedtime, accents, whether it’s more fun to read fiction or non-fiction and how it’s different, how recording the bible affected the way he thought about religion, the variety of accents he grew up with, how he went from screen actor to voice narrator and back, and how reading so much incredible literature changed him and inspired him to write an audible original story with Jess Walter called ‘The Angel of Rome.” I hope you enjoy my conversation with Edoardo Ballerini!

After falling in love with New York City real estate on Bravo, Chloe Chasanoff, another member of the Harris Residential Team, was determined to be in the industry. However, Chloe learned that the real estate industry is not all expensive lunches at Nobu and travel by jet. What does “leader” actually mean? Is it charisma? Is it skill? Or is it something else?

Tony Smith, cofounder of VSA Consulting Group asks himself this question every day. But, despite popular belief, Tony reveals that things like “charisma” or “skill” or “personality” are attributes of a leader, but not what makes a leader, a leader. Rather, Tony describes leadership as being much more. It’s about inspiring the future.

This week Tony and I discussed an important, but an often overlooked thing - transformational leadership. Since 1985, Tony has been advocating, practicing, and coaching transformational leadership, which empowers the performance of corporate CEOs, executives, public leaders, and entrepreneurs to reach business success that exceeds any reasonable expectation.

Tony’s leadership coaching was  beneficially influenced by and draws upon the work of Werner Erhard, Michael Jensen, Jeri Echevarria and Steve Zaffron through a online course called Being a Leader: The Effective Exercise of Leadership which can be found online under: Being a Leader, Werner Erhard, SSRN (Social Science Research Network).
