Clutter costs time.  Time digging to find that little piece of paper or time spent cleaning up an area so you feel you can work in it. 

Cutter costs energy. Energy literally drains away when trying to work or live in a cluttered environment. 

But most importantly, clutter causes stress - the opposite of peace. Peace is a priceless commodity that we all look for.
