FINISHING WELL

Welcome to the story of Hezekiah. God gave Hezekiah 15 more years to live. Wouldn’t you like to learn from him how to finish well or how not to finish well?

Let’s learn from his fascinating story. It is recorded in 2 Kings 18-20; 2 Chronicles 29.1-33; and Isaiah 36-39.

Last month I had the privilege of being a guest on ‘Saving Grace Podcast,’ a regular podcast produced by Grace School of Theology, Houston, Texas. My interviewer was a good friend, Tracy Marshall, a fellow church member where we attend. It was a great opportunity to share the work of Finishing Well Ministries with their network and the radio network of Salem Radio Network. I hope you will enjoy what God is doing through FWM and the doors He continues to open to us. Thanks, Hal Habecker

How do we live each day in light of God’s grace and love?

God calls us to influence our world with the truth of God’s love, a love that cannot be earned and cannot be lost.  Sharing God’s love with others requires that we first grasp His love for us. Saving Grace provides the listener opportunity to hear inspiring interviews with experts as well as everyday people who love Jesus and want others to know and experience that love and the abundant life Jesus spoke about.

Special guest, Hal Habecker, discusses the aging population and how the church marginalizes their importance.

Hal Habecker interviews Tom Watson, a longtime friend, about his life journey and transition into retirement. Tom shares his upbringing in Pampa, Texas, his education in agriculture and biology, and his career as an anesthesiologist in Texarkana. He discusses the challenges of aging, the decision to retire, and the move back to Dallas to be closer to family. Tom emphasizes the importance of finding a new church and community, and he expresses his desire to continue serving God through teaching and reaching out to neighbors. He advises others to find purpose beyond their job and to live a life that honors Christ.

Retirement brings new opportunities for God to work in our lives. In this interview, Dr. Tom Watson shares his journey, after 40 years of full-time medical practice, into his new retirement season. As we listen to Tom’s story, let’s keep pursuing God as He desires to maximize His work in us through our new extended years. Furthermore, let’s keep telling and retelling the stories about God’s work in us.

As Hal interviews John Sparks, John shares his story of how God is using him to encourage others in his neighborhood with a simple vison and a dog. It’s a fascinating story, and the journey continues. John’s story will encourage you and perhaps bring fresh insights as to how God wants to use each of us – with the simplest of ways becoming open doors for the work of the Spirit through each of us.

By the year 2060, over 95 million people in America will be over 65. That’s an increase of over 30+ million in just 36 years – by then 1 in 4 people will be over 65. How is FWM making a difference? How does God call us and the church to prepare for this population change? Let’s make a difference by being older people committed to God’s purposes in our aging years. Let’s call the church to grow their vision for an aging population.

Life has lots of interruptions and uncertainties. They may be as simple as too many red lights when one is in a hurry, and they may be as profound and life-changing as an unexpected illness or even death. We can also expect that the longer we live these uncertainties of life may even become more frequent for ourselves or with family and friends. Can we prepare for them? How do we prepare for and anticipate them? Hal and Randy will discuss and encourage us as we trust God with life.
