  • What Do We Do When Jesus Exceeds Our Expectations?

We all have expectations in life. For most of us, we expect to graduate from high school, go to college, get married, and have kids. For most of us, we expect to get a job, make a certain amount of money, buy a house, and have a happy life. For those with kids, we have expectations for our kids. As kids, we have expectations of our parents. We have expectations of our jobs, of our co-workers, teachers, students, and friends. Life is filled with expectations.

  • What Do We Do When Jesus Doesn’t Meet Our Expectations?

The King, the long-awaited Messiah, has arrived in all His glory. As the week progresses, the people continue to gather around Him to hear from Him awaiting the moment when He will take His rightful place on the throne and the Jews will finally be set free from their oppressors. However, while the people championed Jesus, the Pharisees saw Jesus as nothing more than a rebel and therefore sought to put an end to this distraction.

  • Sex Matters

There is a level of conflict that is happening in the church, and it seems to be getting out of hand. Rather than being mature enough to handle the conflict on their own, they are going outside of the church and airing their dirty laundry, so to speak, before the court system and unbelievers, which Paul is going to infer, hurts the credibility and witness of the church in the community.

  • Love Lived Out

The Corinthians lived in a sex-obsessed culture, and it led them to have a distorted view of sexuality. Sadly, this has made its way into the church as well. Paul’s intent is to correct this view of sex, teaching us that what we do with and our we relate to our bodies, especially sexual ethics, matters.

  • Healthy Leadership

The Corinthians had a distorted view of leadership. Paul’s intent is not defend abuse, but to defend the role of healthy pastoral leadership in the church for the benefit of the body.

  • The Path to Maturity

Paul says that there are two kinds of wisdom: the wisdom from the world, and wisdom from God. The way that we discern whether wisdom is coming from God or, from the world, is via the Spirit who works like a conduit from God’s heart to ours.
