Sometimes it’s hard to believe that God still does miracles. We don’t expect Him to move in miraculous ways in our day-in and day-out lives. Maybe we’d like to see miracles, but it’s hard to see past our problems. This weekend we begin a 5 week series looking at the miracles of Jesus that are found in the book of John. Lead pastor David Beaty guides us through these miracles and points out to all of us that, no matter how big the problem is, God is bigger still. “Why?” Isn’t it really the question behind all the other questions we ask? Most of us can look at a situation, an event, a happening, or even a church and offer an explanation about “What” and “How”; but we really want to know “Why?” i.e. Why is this happening? Why was that decision made? Why do we do things the way we do them? Jesus was absolutely clear about His “Why?”. Here at First Christian, we believe the “Why?” of Jesus should also be our “Why?”.

Our School of Rock series may be over for this year, but how about an encore from John 15? Everyone wants to know the secret to success. But, when we talk about bearing fruit and leading fulfilling lives, we’re not talking about quick hits and short-term gains. Join us as lead pastor David Beaty answers the question: So how do we actually find success that lasts? Isn’t that what we’re all after?

Our lives are overwhelmed with possibilities. And we’d like to think that priorities and productivity go hand in hand. But how do we remain faithful through our frustrations when the work we’re putting in isn’t yielding the results we’re hoping for? In our last segment of this year’s School of Rock, we’ll be using the 1985 Mr. Mister hit song “Kyrie Eleison” along with Jesus’ words from John 15 to figure out that what we hope to accomplish with our lives may take a while but it will be worth it. This weekend marks the half way point in our School Of Rock series. This week the band will be playing Every Breath You Take, a song originally recorded by the Police. Just to play with your mind a little, think about the following statement: Resolutions without routines are like Ferrari’s without fuel. They may look impressive, but they won’t get you anywhere without fuel. This Sweek lead pastor David Beaty will take that thought and show us why every breath we take is important when it comes to establishing the patterns we need to live by.

This week’s episode of the School Of Rock will be using the song Peace Of Mind that was originally recorded by the band Boston. It’s what we all want, isn’t it? But what if it doesn’t come all wrapped up nice and neat like we hoped? We live in world of now and what’s next – but, when it comes to living a life of purpose and progress, sameness can be underrated. This week lead pastor David Beaty will show us why the greatest catalyst for change, for the peace of mind we’re all searching for, can often be found in the most mundane routine.

It’s one of our favorite series each fall. Our band performs a cover of a classic rock song and then we use the main thought to see what God has to say to us from a story in His Word! What a great combination! Every song tells a story and those stories intersect with our stories. For this week, lead pastor David Beaty will be using the Fleetwood Mac song: Don’t Stop. Even though our Guardrails series is coming to a close this coming weekend, and you may hope that you never hear about guardrails again, we will continue to need them in our lives. This weekend we will cover the big pushback, the big "why", the reason for the fact that even though we know we need guardrails we still choose not to set them in place in our lives. Even though we may not put them in place as needed, the tension will always be there. Refusing to have guardrails doesn't solve anything. It just moves the battle line a little closer to disaster. The bottom line for this weekend is, you've got to make up your mind. Join us as lead pastor David Beaty takes us through the life of Daniel for a last look at the need for guardrails.

Friendships can be powerful things. They can be great, but they are potentially dangerous because you drop your guard with your friends. You become less careful. And as a result you're more easily influenced, drawn toward the acceptance you find. Because of this vulnerability, it would be smart to develop some guardrails.
